View Full Version : Singing in the shower

has been banned in my part of Australia :fainted:

We are in a serious water shortage and now to reduce the length of time spent in the shower they have asked us not to sing in there :tongue6: Apparently singing in the shower lengthens your stay in the shower. :tongue3:

There are also water inspectors now with the power to enter your property and estimate the amount of water you should be using.

If they consider you are using more than you should your water pressure will be reduced from 40 gallons to 2 gallons:eek:

I thought it was a joke at first when hubby told me...... I thought he was just tired of hearing me singing my out of tune version of "splish, splash I was taking a bath" to Scrappy :p

But, nope they are serious :(

What happens when you need to bathe your pet?

Bren, I had to laugh. Thank goodness Brisbane isn't that bad yet.

To save water here in Brissy, I bath my boys, we have a saying " Higher than the waist, is just a waist.LOL.

I imagine my neighbors, Greg, Bucky, Sadie and anyone else within a 500 ft. radius of my house wish they would pass the same law here.

I fill a bucket and use that to wash Scrappy in the bath instead of just having the water running.

It is funny to see him look from the tap to me as if to say "Hey, you have forgotten something, where is the water" lol

We got 5 minutes of rain this morning. But the ground is so rock hard the rain isnt penetrating and so far the rain hasnt fallen on our catchment areas.

I even feel guilty thinking about the water that could be used for bathing and drinking being used to flush the toilet:( The "if its yellow let it mellow if its brown flush it down" just isnt working for me..... and I do feel guilty.

I need some of Gregswife's snow shipped my way ;)

hahaha that is why I thought my hubby was joking..... My singing is appalling and I sing with gusto even if it is off key:D

Bren, we have been having a bit of rain here in Brissy, but like you, none has fallen into our catchment areas:( , something has to give, it really is worrying.

The Governments were talking about a big plant to RECYCLE our TOILET water. They say it would end up cleaner than the water we are drinknng now. I have a real problem with the thought of drinking water that people have done #2's in    . Please it has to rain and over the catchment areas soon.

I so agree. Since I found out that Melbourne uses recycled water to drink I take my own with me. I understand all about the purifing but I have a vivid imagination unfortunately.

Our new house is going to have tanks and hubby the other day saw this little kennel (not that Scrappy needs one) with its own rain water tank that flowed into a water bowl at the bottom so he wants to make one for Scrappy to match the house lol Actually it is not a bad idea if you had a large outside dog with its own kennel. Scrappy's will be more a decoration in the courtyard :)

We also have a plumber working with us on the renovation project to use recycled grey water and the Coaching centre when built because of its huge roof expanse will have tanks attached to service that facility. But of course we need water to do all this with.

I live in Ballarat Bek, supposed to be the coldest and wettest place in Western Victoria. Only rivalled in coldness by Tasmania ;) Normally you can feel the temperature drop before you even enter the town. We have history making hail the size of tennis balls and yet we are one of the worst hit by this drought.

I usually hate rainy days but I vow to never, ever complain again.

I have been to Ballerat about 7yrs ago. I only had 2 children at the time. We went to see the woolsheds ( which my first born managed to fall back off those wooden benches and slam him head on the one behind and have medical personal run to his aid, thank goodness it was just a lump on his head, long story really) and we went to that place ( can't recall the name) and panned for gold, it was wonderful. ballerat is beautiful we stayed for 4days and loved it.
I know how badly you guys need the water Bren and I pray you get it soon and in the catchment area would be great.
Something will give soon, I believe it will happen.
hugs

hahaha you are talking about Sovereign Hill. The replicated, authenticated mining town.

OMGosh ouch, that would have hurt. Glad your son was ok.

Next door to the Woolshed is a mega huge Put Put Golf course now. ;) You have to come back :D

It won't be this year, but hopefully in 2008-2009 we will. We go to Sydney, Melbourne, ballerat etc etc on our way to South Australia, where daves ( hubby) Cousins live. WE would really like to go back again, but first things first, we need to save for a bigger family car, then we can save for our 6week $5000 holiday.
Yes yes yes it was Sovereign Hill, we had so much fun. We also went to that big Castle ( can't remember the name of it though either), I remember my hubby had a go at shooting an arrow and horses etc. I do remember my son buying a plastic sward and hitting this man as he walked passed him ( the man was not impressed, my sone was however so very proud of himself, LOL he was only 2yrs).
See talking about it makes me want to go back.

Kyral Castle lol with the Medievil (sp) re-enactments. When next here you need to visit the gold museum. It has replicas of the Gold Nuggets found in the area.

There are some mighty huge gold nuggets found by prospectors just with one of those hand held thingies :) and just recently too.

My hubby studied to be a geologist before he suffered an injury which counted out his dream of going to the Antartic to do research (he switched to Physics and Electronics) One of the reasons we moved here and hence our fascination with our town.

You live in an amazing town Bren. Ballerat is such a beautiful place filled with history. Just beautiful, and for sure we will be passing through again and when that time comes, we will have to meet up for sure.
Yes the medievil style, not only did my son have the sword but he also had the hat with horns on it when he hit that man, LOL.

Sorry I can't ship any water for you to shower with:( But I would be delighted to take an extra bath each day in honor of you! Why I'll even try to do a little singing to make it more meaningful!:tongue6:

On a serious note............it must be horrible right now to live under those restrictions. We have had water restrictions with regard to grass watering and washing cars but never bathing. I really can't imagine it!

Of course you realise that to do that in honor of me a video would be required with sound of course to hear you singing :D

We have had 10yrs of those restrictions but never before been told to limit showers etc. And never been told to not sing in the shower..... well, apart from hubby has told me I make his ears bleed lol But, never had a goverment tell us that singing in the showers increases water usage and therefore to stop.

Honestly, I truly thought it was a joke.

Soon we will be bathing in the gong (a waterhole naturally fed from a spring and named by the Chinese who came out here in the gold rush) and taking the ol washboard down there and beating the clothes against the rocks to clean them. We already go to the spring to collect water and the line of traffic is getting longer each time.

I really am sorry about your plight.......hope you get some rain SOON!!!

You really want me to record my singing for you??? I can put it on YOUTUBE for you to enjoy. I'll make the water really hot so the doors will fog up......that would be for you benefit! LOL

NOT! You can forget that!:tongue6:

Thanks for all your good thoughts. I truly hope none of you have to go thru a drought as stressful as this one.

Granted, we are one of the driest continents but who would have thought a civilised country would run out of water.

I have been hearing on our TV about the weird weather America is going thru too. New Yorkers in shorts and Tshirts and Colarado having the biggest snow fall ever.

When you take that leisurely shower tonight or leave the water running while you brush your teeth give me a thought..... I will be bathing Scrappy in a bucket so as to recycle the water onto the garden and showering with a couple of plastic buckets under me so I can recycle the water to use to save the few plants that have not yet died, and trying to resist flushing the toilet and letting it mellow if its yellow and flushing it if its brown and of course lastly and the hardest one ......refraining from singing in the shower :winky2:

Right there with you Bren .... apparantly, Sydney will be the first major city in the world to RUN OUT OF WATER!! eeeeeek!!!..... how do you like them apples?? They're also talking about recylcing 'potty' water here too .... perish the thought!!!!!

What is this world coming to?

Let it Rain let it Rain let it Rain .......I mean a dirty great big downpour that actually falls in the catchment areas ... none of this cruddy little drizzle that just manages to cause IDOIT drivers to lose their minds & think they should drive faster & cause an accident kinda rain...... REAL RAIN! Bring it on!

Oh Jacqui, I know what you mean.

It is just so rediculous to think years ago they made anyone who had a tank attached to their homes to remove them and now they are giving you a rebate to go out and buy one.

I am for recycled water for flushing the loo and watering the garden and car washes but I just have a problem with drinking it.....

Has Sydneyites been asked to stop singing in the shower yet?

Oh yeah, I'm all for 'grey' water, but I do have to draw the line at actually drinking it ......

We can still sing in the shower here, but a friend of mine has been issued with an egg timer for her shower by her council - I think it's 4 minutes..... it's only a matter of time ....

Kanga

I ahve no problem with using "grey" water. We are setting up the pipes at the renovation to reuse grey water but I kinda draw the line at recycled bodily fluids :sickie:

The council is the powers that be for your city. Mayor etc. elected by the people for the people sort of thing:D

Though we do not vote fpr the mayor that idjit is elected by his peers on the "council" We vote in the council members though.

Nope, no leg pulling. I wish I were as it is very, very testing.

They passed a law here and a person employed by the city can enter your premises and assess your water usage. Jacqui's friend was lucky just to be given an egg timer here in my small part of Oz our water pressure will be reduced from 40 gallons to a trickle of 2 gallons if they decide you are wasting water:eek:

police on car patrols can also enter your premises in my town if your garden looks nice and green and lush  Houses now have big signs up saying garden is watered with "grey" water. neighbors are also dobbing in neighbors.

Everyone is a water police :fainted:

No soup Nazi's here in Oz we only have "Water Nazi's" :(
