Meet Smokey!

Hi! My name is Smokey! I've had a rough beginning of my life and I'm only about 6 months old. This is at least my 5th home and I'm hoping it's permanent. I started out in this horrible place where I was cramped up with my brothers, sisters, mom and other dogs. The humans call it a puppy mill. Then I was given to this lady that was sitting all the time in this thing with wheels. She had to give me up to another lady that lived in this cool place with a bunch of dogs. I liked this place. She kept me for awhile then I went to another cool place, but I wasn't there for long. I went back to the other lady who gave me to my new mommy now. I have a big brother that is smaller than me. He doesn't seem to like me much right now, but I'm trying to make friends with him. I like my new home! I hope I can stay awhile!

Ashley, he is soooooooo cute!! How big is he??? I do hope it works out with the two of them..........it takes a bit of time but YOU be the packleader and don't let one dominate the other and they should be fine. My three are getting along really well now that they know that correction is in order if they try to do the dominating thing. Even Toby is getting better with the jealousy when we first come home. So take control and be patient with both of them. Chipper being an only child and Smokey for having such a rough start in life and I am sure they will become playmates and buds!!! We are going to do everything in our power to make it work. I honestly didn't think Chip was going to be this upset about it, but he is pretty upset. I think they'll end up being friends, but right now Chip is feeling replaced I think. He keeps giving us really sad, confused looks.

Good news is - the lady that we adopted him from will watch Smokey for free and groom him for free. For her to watch Chip, she charges $30 and $7 a night for boarding. When we go away on our anniversary next month, she will watch and groom both of them and we'll only have to pay $58 all together. That's about the same price we were charged for just grooming Chip once! She's a professional groomer too and has been doing it for 20 some years.

He is adorable Ashley. I'll say a wee prayer that Smokey and Chip will start to get on. Am sure they will, it'll just take a little time for Chip to accept him.
Now isnt it great that you have also gained a nice lady to do your grooming and pet sitting for you. You are a lucky girl. Keep us updated now, we want to no everything.

He is adorable, I think it's great he is with you, this little guy deserves a clean break and a nice warm home, it will all be ok, I know it..

Ach Ashley, now dont be crying, it'll be fine. When I first got Boots, my Missy who was totally spoiled and an absoulte mammys girl would totally ignore her. I thought to myself this is never gona work. I cant remember how long it took, but in no time Missy was being a mammy to her. She was scolding Boots if she got out of line, but also protecting her if we were in the park and another dog came near them. Now the 2 of them lie together, eat together, bark together, play together, but Missy still has to be the first to greet visitors, if not she gives Boots a good telling of. You wait and see, in your next few post you will be telling us how well they are getting on.

Oh Ashley:hearter: , he is adorable. He looks so much like my Teddy. I'll tell you Ashley, when I brought my rescue Henry home(my shih Tzu), Teddy hated him. Teddy would growl at him, would want to be with me or his dad, hated if Henry was held by us. Didn't want Henry to touch his toys. But guess what? they are the best of friends now. Sleep together, play together. It all worked out. Now it didn't happen in just a couple of days. They slowly warmed up to each other. We made sure to give equal time to Teddy. I know what you mean with the looks Chip is giving you. Teddy is a pro at giving that pitiful look. He uses it to his advantage alot.:lol2: It will work out, it really will. Congratulations. Smokey is a doll.

When my husband got Tucker (choc lab) I think Leo thought he was "his" new pet (cause everything is "his") :lol2: I really didn't think about any rivalry much tho had to teach them to be "easy" on each other. Of course our Tucker is a big dog and doesn't get the same treatment like sleeping in the bed and cuddled on my lap. But they are the best of buds as yours will be in no time. Be patient...

He really is such a sweet boy. This morning I took him outside and it was just him and I. He looked at me and made the weird bark/growl noise that he does then sat down in front of me. I just looked at him then he barked and put his paw on my knee like "pet me!!" I still just looked at him and he got up on his hind legs and started "dancing". It was so comical. He is quite the entertainer!

Chip and him finally found an even ground and are now getting along. Chip still isn't 100% sure, but is at least tolerating him for now. He layed next to him earlier and I was able to get a couple shots of them together. They were play fighting earlier for about an hour. I'm glad they are starting to get along.

Ashley, you hang in there. I got that same look from Macy when I brought Jazzy home to live with us and now they are great buddies. Now I am getting that look from Macy & Jazzy since I brought Sprout home with me.

Smokey is adorable and he and Chip will be buddies before you know it.
