Hi, everyone. Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Life can get so busy.
I dropped Dustin off at the vet this morning to be neutered. I had originally scheduled his surgery for a couple of weeks ago but I had to go out of town for work a few days after his scheduled date and I didn't want to risk being gone if there were any complications.
For those who remember his head-bobbing issues, those appear to be completely gone. I haven't seen any hint of it in a couple of months now. He did have a brief bout of giardia but it was very mild and he recovered quickly.
He's also grown a LOT! He was 2.9 pounds when I got him at 10 weeks old. We expected him to reach 5 to 6 pounds but this morning he weighed in at 8.2 pounds! I was worried that maybe I've been overfeeding him but the doctor says he's not overweight so I guess he's just a big guy. I guess he'll be a few ounces lighter after today, though. ;)
I took tomorrow off from work so I can spend the day with him after his surgery. He has chryptorchidism so the procedure isn't entirely routine but the doctor says the undescended testicle is in the pelvic area so extraction won't be too extreme.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that Dustin's headbobbing has stopped and wasn't a health issue. I've wondered about him often. Wow, time flies, he is already getting neutered. I'm so glad you checked in with us again. Can you pick Dustin up tomorrow or will he come home tonight?

Hi! I'm glad that Dustin's head bobbing is better.
Please keep us updated on the little guy's progress. I hope
that the vet will send him home with you today.

Glad to hear Dustin is doing better and I am sure the surgery will go fine today. I know 8 lbs sounds so big when there are some that have 3 to 5 lb. babies at over a year old but really 8 lbs is still small.:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: I think all my kiddos are now over 8 lbs...............more to love!:hearter: :hearter:

The doctor called to let me know that the surgery is over. Everything went well and Dustin is doing just fine. He's awake and standing but a little groggy/wobbly still.
He's learned to love going for rides in the car before today... hopefully this experience won't ruin it for him. ;)

So glad you came back to give us an update on Dustin. I was worried about that little (not so little anymore!) guy.

Another hour until I get to pick him up. I miss that guy. It's so weird to come home and not have him waiting for me.

I'm glad everything came out ok with the nuetering and the head bobbing. He will bounce back from the surgery too you'll see. The first time I didn't take Mia to work I felt so sad and lonely.:(

He's been home for about four hours now. He's finally waking up. The first three hours he pretty much stayed in his bed... sleeping on and off. Now he's awake and chewing on a rawhide. He's still noticeably groggy but definitely getting to be more like himself. I feel terrible that he had to go through it. He's going to be so spoiled for the next couple of weeks. :)

He's definitely doing well... a little too well. ;)
His energy level is back to normal which is making it incredibly difficult to follow the doctor's instructions with respect to limiting his physical activity.
I'm wondering how much I'm supposed to limit him. For example, taking him outside to go potty requires going down the front steps but there are only two steps. I've been carrying him down and carrying him back up after he finishes but it's difficult to open and close the door when I'm holding him. Do you suppose it's really necessary?
He has started licking his stitches but he's not doing it a lot. I have caught him a couple of times but I stop him right away. I bought an Elizabethan Collar today for him but I'd like to avoid using it if possible. I've heard about sprays or lotions that can be placed near the stitches to discourage him from licking that area. Does anybody have any experience with and/or suggestions for that?
The worst thing, I think, is that I can't bathe him for 10 days after the surgery. If I had known that, I would have bathed him right beforehand because it had already been about two weeks since his last bath. The good news is, he doesn't get "stinky" nearly as fast as he used to. I think it has something to do with his improved... uh... archery skills. ;) (he knows how to 'aim' better now)
Oh, I decided to cook for Dustin for the first time. Nothing fancy... I boiled some ground beef (that's how the vet had suggested preparing ground beef for him) and served it with steamed rice and steamed carrots. I didn't add any seasonings or salt or anything. It smelled pretty good to me and, apparently, it smelled good to him, too. I put it all in his bowl and mixed it together really well and then set it on the floor. He LOVED it! He really chowed down. I was worried he might get sick because he ate it so fast.
Anybody have any other suggestions for "simple" meals I can make for Dustin from time-to-time?

Glad Dustin is doing fine and his appetitie is good! Both are good signs. I microwave steak and chicken and add it to their kibble and they really love it and get everything that I put in front of them.
