My ideal would be 6 . My local council only allows 2 dogs ,naturally I have ignored their pitiful rules and have 4 ( I'm not a fast talking lawyer for nothing) . I really would LOVE to add another rescue . I have spotted the most ADORABLE little black and white shih tzu in a pound in Sydney , she matches Henry James perfectly . How could I possibly leave this little girl on death row ? .I WANT HER !!!! . Sarah
Look at this face ( SIGH)

:( Oh Sarah she is gorgeous!! Hurry go get her!! Go now hurry!!!

Dont worry my lawyer is a savage man and he is the best lawyer in NYC, he charges 350 dollars an hour:D but for some reason he likes me, dont know why, but he does. Let me know and I will send him your way and he will tear up those rules you have there:mad: I promise.. Did you leave yet , hurry go!!!:D

Sarah, I say go and get her. In brissy the laws are the same no more than 2, we have the three. So if I ever get into trouble I am calling you girlfriend, LOL.
Three is a perfect number for us at this stage, maybe when my kids are older and less demanding I may add a fourth to my tribe.
If you want 6 then go for it, go and get that little girl.

Well have you left yet??????? We are waiting.:D

Well , I have called the pound and she's not ready to go to a new home yet . I will be keeping a close watch on her , I'm not having a 2 year old put to sleep . I've called my twin sister Kirsty . she already owns 2 black and white rescue shih tzus , and thinks she can squeeze in another .Sarah

Sarah, You sound like you want to save them all. You do realize even if you have 6 dogs and have passed some on to family and friends, more will keep on entering those shelters, it will never end.
You sound like the perfect person to have a " Second Chance" dog shelter. Where you can take these babies in and get them on the road to recovery and then find them good loving homes. I think you can get a sponser and all, maybe that is something you should look into. I honestly don't think you will be happy unless you can keep saving these precious little babies.
You have an amazing heart and I admire that.

Oh she is adorable:smlove2: how could they put that precious face to sleep:mad: :( I could never in a million years do that job.

Go get her & i agree with Bek, you need to start up a second chance shelter & help these babies. You are perfect for this:D

P.S. Shih Tzu's look very different over here, they have more of a flat nose but yours are gorgeous:smlove2:

OMGosh she is adorable.

I stopped looking a long time ago at rescue sites as it just broke my heart to see the pitiful condition some rescues are in.

If you have the room, the time, and enough love to go around well then go for it.:)

If you need to make room, Princess Charlotte is more than welcome here :D

HMMM , I am thinking of starting a rescue when I move down to Tassie - I have the room . The only problem is - I WOULD KEEP THEM ALL !!! Bren , thanks for your kind offer but Princess Charlotte IS MINE ( and Arabella is too !!! ) ROFL .Sarah P.S Australian and Asian shih tzus are way prettier than American ones ( just my opinion of course )

hahaha Sarah you cannot blame me for trying :D

Soooo, you will be a "collector" rather than a rehoming shelter

Bless your heart, Sarah.

Sarah--God bless you for doing all that you do. We're only allowed 2 dogs in my town. The little girl looks really cute. I don't know how anyone can leave all those animals and have to put them down. I could never do that.

What are the main differences between the American standards and the Australian & Asian shih tzus standards?

The main difference between U.S and Australian shih tzu's is the bite .The American Kennel club standard calls for an undershot bite , in Australia the standard is for slightly undershot or level . I prefer a level bite , undershot looks a little to Pekingese my tastes . Henry and that little girl have what is called the old fashioned face , it looks how shih tzus are supposed to look before someone bred the pekingese x in the early lines .You can get shih tzus that look like Henry in the U.S . Awww, she is very cute! I hate going to the local shelters! It kills me to see those sad faces and begging eyes...........you just want to take them all home with you. I get very depressed when I go (I go to the pound to pick up a license tag for my kids) but ALWAYS tell myself not to go into the dog area..........and I never listen to myself. If I didn't live where I do, I would have around four or five dogs, some outside only and some inside only. But I'm just dreaming; we are only allowed three pets so I do have the possibililty to add one more........but I seem content with the two!! We have front packs for each of the dogs and I don't know what we would do with a third on vacation. Think I will just hang on to the two sweethearts that I have and enjoy them to the full! I would make an exception to Elaine's Abbie, but don't think she would be willing to give her up! Would you?

hahaha Carole we would all love one of Elaine's fluffs :D I put in an offer to Sarah for Princess Charlotte as she is just a drive up the hwy from me so I thought I had more chance there :D

I never answered your actual question Sarah, I would love 3. a pigeon pair of Malts and for some reason lately, I have been leaning towards a pug  We have a new neighbors and they sometimes joins us on a walk to the lake and the two pugs are just adorable and get on so well with Scrappy. Before meeting the pugs I had told hubby if I was on a larger property I would love a great dane. Another friend has 2 and their personalities are just like Scrappy's. they are just so sweet natured.

I think 3 little ones is a good number. So when you take one out there are two that stay behind to keep eachother company.

I don't know if Malteses are addictive or what, but I only have one right now, and I would love to have two. But who knows? Maybe once I get my second, I'll want a 3rd! Then a 4th! But I'm sure my husband will set me straight before that can happen. I don't even know if I can even talk to him about a second (which wouldn't be for awhile anyway because Fendi is still potty training).

Andrea, I hope you find that precious one! It will be a much beloved baby:smlove2: .

I don't know what the laws in San Diego are but if I had a house I'd probably add 2 more. More Maltese, but I love the other little breeds too like Yorkies and Shih Tzus.
Carlos says only if we have a house in the boonies will we get another dog.:p
