Okay since we had the crash, I will post this again.
What does everyone feed.
I feed Wellness, but I am looking into Natural Balance also. I am happy with Wellness, but I just want to keep my options open just in case!!!

:p :p Oh lord Elaine,. dont do that.. EWWWWWWWWWWWWW it stinks! I bought it the other day cause I ran out of Wellness , when I opened the bag I almost died:p :( I have since found a store right near me who sells Wellness (Thank God) I will never buy that stuff again, does it have good stuff in it, I never researched it, but alot of people use it so it must be good..

there was a right up about it on the other form & it seems to be well liked. Some of the well informed Maltese owners use it & talk good of it;)

Purina over here is recommended by Crufts show breeders.

my kiddies love wellness but there is no store around me that sells it,
and i mix wellness with eaglepack... im running low on eaglepack
and im thinking of getting venison one from NB
and I will probably get that one cuz duck and potatoe made donbi itch :interesting:

I feed Cosmo the Wellness now. He seems to like it a lot. And yes Jadey is right that there is no place that sells it near us or if they do sell it, they ALWAYS seem to have expired food on the shelves. So we have to order the Wellness.

I'm feeding Royal Canin and I'm mixing it with boiled chicken. So far this seems to be the only food Lulu will take. She's super picky. I tried switching her to Wellness but she didn't take it, starved herself for almost two days so I gave in :D another bag of dog food wasted..

Both the Maltese and the Yorkie eat Natural Balance Venison/brown rice and also the duck/potato.......also mix in a little of the wee bits by Solid Gold as it has bison in it. So far so good. They get a little of each twice a day. I really like the Natural Balance product!:)

I am a Royal Canine fan. My 3 babies luv it. Like it Andrea said, it does have a stronger smell to it, but that is what the dogs like, that is why usually the most fussiest eater will eat Royal Canine.
I have had NO problems with mine eating Royal Canine, they luv it, they are in good health.

What one do you use Bek? I noticed they dont have one for Maltese & do you think it helps tearstains?:D

I don't know if it helps tearstains, I don't have any problems. Mine get very little staining and I don't believe it is from the food. It does contain Beet pulp and some people think that causes staining, when in fact the beet pulp in it is from the sugar beet and it is white, not from the beetroot you eat with salad. Elaine you would have to give it ago and see if it works for you.
I use Royal canin mini junior 2mths to 10mths and I also use Royal canin mini adult 10mths to ? ( I think it is called that, I ran out and will be picking some up tomorrow)
Here is a pic of what my packet looks like and the ingredients that is in it ( hope you can read it). Like you Elaine we don't have very many options when it comes to good quality foods for our babies.

Never heard of that food bren, where do you get it? how much?? I have heard Holistic to be a better way to go, but never heard of that brand or any other brand like it.
I can get eukanuba, Iams, science diet, pro plan, pal and through my vet specially ordered for me Royal Canin.

Bek you can get it in Qld from Carolyn Pearen - Canine Hydrotheraphy Australia @ Greenbank : Ph 07 3200 0498

Or if there is a Pet Stock near you they have it too, that is where I get Scrappy's.

It is in the same price range as Eukanuba, Natural Balance etc here in Au.

The pieces are slightly bigger than Eukanuba which I think is better as he actually has to bite into it and I think that is more beneficial for his teeth, with Eukanuba the kibble was so small I swear he just enhaled it.

Thanks Bek, i think i will give it a go & see if they like it!

I dont believe the beet pulp has anything to do with staining either, Purina has that in it too & my kids dont have bad staining but i dont want it to get any worse either.

What about the kibble size in the Mini Adult, roughly what size is it & shape?

The Purina small adult is triangle but flat & Abs has no problem breaking this up.

bek74
01-09-2007, 02:30 AM
The mini adult is small and star shaped, Abbie wouldn't have any problems with it.
The mini junior are teeny triangle pieces, the adult are a little bigger and different shape.
I am not sure if you can get samples over your way, but my vet has a heap, if you like I can get one of each and mail them to you. Saves you buying a bag and then your babies not liking it.
let me know

Thanks thats so nice of you:smlove2:

I will try the big pet store to see if they have samples & also sometimes if you contact the makers they will send samples. I wonder where they are based!

The US of course ( isn't everything). It is an imported product. Let me know how you go, I will be getting my food this week from my vet, so grabbing a couple of samples really isn't a problem.

:smlove2: I am loved. Yes I do remember the Beet pulp topic at SM, lol.

Honestly when I first joined SM, I swear you lived there 24/7, lol and I fell in love with Nemo, you had the cutest siggy I had ever seen. I can honestly say Nemo was one of the first babies I fell in love with, then Kim's Noelle. Of course I then met alot of others, but Nemo and Noelle where the two that stood out.

Now I have fallen in love with so many, I have had to make a doggy napping list, lol ( shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Elaine her Abbie is on it, lol)
