Ernie is the past month has had THREE accidents on my bed. We always take him to the toilet before bed at night and my hubby usually takes him out at around 4am, but for some reason my hubby has still found pee on his side of the bed ( once it was a little poop).
Ernie has only done this Three times in the past month and every time have been on my hubby's side of the bed ( Ernie sleeps on my side). I can't have this continue, so he is off the bed tonight:( . I have cleaned the area as best as I can with good products, but I just can't take the chance of this happening again and becoming some pattern.
How am I going to settle him tonight:( , my hubby said to put Sammy Maree and Max off the bed tonight to sleep with him, but I can't do that, I will feel horrible.
Any Ideas as to why all of a sudden Ernie is doing this, and how can I break him of this habit and how can I get him to settle tonight on his own:( ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????

Thanks guys in advance

1st of all
YOUR HUSBAND ROCKS
if it was my boyfriends bed, the 1st time would have been the last time :D

and 2nd of all, i dont have any great advice but do you have a doggy step?
maybe he is having accidents he is still a puppy...
maybe if you have the doggy steps he will get off the bed and do his business... dueci uses the doggy step when he needs to go potty which is great!
aerong tried to poop on my bed and she hasnt been on my bed in a long time...
daerong today tried to fly off the bed so i decided only dueci is allowed

hope everything works out bek

but overall you got a great man!
and poor ernie, if u want u can send him my way :D

OR!
buy the plastic cover for beds :D
im going to buy one over the weekend on ebay for 10 bucks...
just in case one of my furkids want to do number 1 on mommys bed!

Thanks Jadey, I do have a wonderful husband, and he hasn't even carried on about the accidents, he never asked to have Ernie off the bed, this is my Idea until I can figure something out. My hubby loves our furkids and accidents are just that "accidents".
He is still only 4mths, it's just that he has only started this, he does do it on my hubby's side.Maybe it is because he is the one who takes him to potty through the night, maybe hubby didn't wake up earlier enough and possibly woke up after Ernie had the accident. He does it right at the foot and edge of the bed. I don't have any doggy stairs and no one around here sells them, I may have to look into something similar ( any Ideas my Aussie mates, as you guys now what is available here).

Now to your theory Sarah, I am not going to rule that out, it could also be possible. Ernie luvs his daddy very much, he will sit ( learning to stay), and walk on lead with him. My hubby NEVER feeds them dinner as he isn't home, but I could get him to give them treats etc etc.
Will let you know how tonight goes, I do feel bad, but until I can make some kind of ramp or stairs, Ernie is evicted from the bed:(

Thanks for the Ideas, you guys are great.

hugs

I feel your pain Bek:(

I dont have any advice other than i think you are doing the right thing by taking him OFF the bed.

Abbie does not sleep on our bed only the boys, she still sleeps in her crate at night in my room & i dont know if i will allow her to sleep at night on my bed.

I dont imagine he will settle very well tonight if he's been used to your bed (or their bed as they like to think) but then again he may be a little star:D let us know how you get on:grouphug:

How late is his last drink of water and food? How many hours before bedtime? Maybe Dad is allowing him a little drink after his late night walk??? Just a thought..

Sometimes there could be a medical problem too. Did your vet check him over yet? At 4 months they still have trouble holding it all night. Jack only started sleeping on our beds after 6 months old. If all your babies sleep on your bed maybe he's trying to be the alpha and mark his personal territory (unfortunate for your sweet hubby). When do you take up the water at the end of the night?

Well Ernie was evicted from my bed last night:( I put a bed on the floor next to me and at first he started crying and barking ( didn't help with Sammy Maree and Max looking over the edge of the bed at him). My 6yr old son who just LOVES Ernie ( he is more like his dog/baby than mine) heard him having a little cry so he came down to my room crying cause Ernie was upset. So I had to bring the spare matress down from upstairs and make a bed on the floor and they both slept together in my room on the floor:tongue6: . Ernie had access to his newspaper but never went to the toilet at all through the night, no accidents nothing.
Now tonight I told my son he has to sleep in his own room and Ernie will be fine ( even if I have to lay on the floor with him)
Really the things we do for our furbabies, LOL.
Hubby says just let him back on the bed and if he has an accident then so be it, but it can quickly turn from an accident into habit and I want to be on top it.
Will let you know how we go tonight.

Yes stay on top of it, I think your doing the right thing. It always seems the woman are the ones who have to stay on top of it, even with our kids. If it was up to the husbands we would be in mass confusion for the rest of our lives!!

Way to stay on top of this. It is always the woman or mom that has to keep "the state of confusion" in line. Hope all goes well and little Ernie is back in bed with the rest of you.

Ernie had a good night last night. I had his bed next to mine and he barked and carried on a little bit, but I just put my hand out and patted him to sleep ( I gave him my bomerang pillow to sleep with). My husband woke up early hours of the morning and stripped over some toy my boys left in the hallway ( LOL), so he woke up me and the dogs, so off we went for a potty trip and then back to bed, Ernie went back onto his own bed and settled pretty quickly.
So hopefull before long he will just go to sleep straight away. I am going to keep this up for as month, and if no accidents or no wee wee's on his paper, then I will let him back onto the bed.
Oh and yes My hubby did miss his kisses from Ernie last night. As soon as hubby hops into bed Ernie runs over, and kisses him. So hubby had to lay next to Ernies's bed and get his kisses before he went to bed last night.
