Today I purchased a dematting comb....I love it. Leo had a very big mat behind his ears and with a little detangling mist and this comb I was able get it out with out cutting. I had been using a thinning scissors. Any other experience with this?

Pip is ace at producing mats behind the ears. I used to despair and very nearly got the scissors out :( But then I heard about the Les Poochs Matzapper Brush (http://www.lespoochs.com/brush-matz.asp) on a grooming forum... it's expensive but guaranteed a lifetime and it works extremely well for us. P..l..u..s.. as it's nearly Christmas I've just ordered the soft yellow brush for general grooming. :D

Nemo is in a puppy cut so he rarely gets a mat, I know how hard they are to get out, so I really happy this worked for you! Can you post a picture of it Cathy so I can see it:p

No blades, no serrated edges, no cutting the hair. :D

They are a bit like slicker brushes but much softer and with a flexible head. Unlike slickers though, where you brush with short, sharp, flicking movements, with these you brush gently and slowly through the hair. Brush downwards, working from the tip up or from the root down. Because the handle/your hand and the brushing movement are in the same direction and not at right angles as in some brushes and most combs, there is less chance of flicking the brush up at the ends of the hair which can cause breakage. I usually keep spraying leave-in detangler/conditioner onto the gadget as I work.:)

I groom my two (even the Westie) every day. It's a lovely bonding time and gives me the opportunity to inspect teeth, feet, eyes, ears, skin etc on a very regular basis and catch any potential problems early.:)

My Malt was almost completely matt free until his adult coat started coming in at about 10 months of age. Then, for a while, it was extremely hard to keep on top of the dreaded matts, even brushing twice and sometimes three times a day. :( How old is Enzo?

I brush daily because of the rough play, they mat each other.:( :( :( But as long as I do it every day, they have minimal mats.:)
