Leo had some of Brookes Chili for a snack tonight.:( His face turned orange so I applied some Diamond Eye to the area and gave him a bath straight away. I gotta have the MOM treatment recipe! Since I'm sure I will have to deal with some sort of stains with him I really need to learn how to fix this (the lil scamp) I think I got most of the stain out with my quick action, however, what if i'm gone? WE could call him a sable maltese:( I guess.

Found this:
Use equal amounts of Milk of Magnesia, corn starch and hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Brush paste on to dog's face, and work well into the stain. Allow paste to dry overnight. Wash out in the morning and condition. Repeat for several days until stains have disappeared.

I'm sorry I wasn't here for you Cathy to help. And remember this treatment takes time and does not work with instant results. Ok here is the treatment I found off a breeder's website that I have used and have proof that it does work with multiple treatments.
You must be very careful. I have used the MOM treatment which is a combination of milk of magenisum/peroxide for human hair(20/or 40 volume)/conditioner/corn starch in equal amounts into a paste and then apply to the stains. This can be done at night and then should be washed out first thing in the morning and a conditioner applied immediately on the hair. I would not do it more than twice a week. It is a long process because using it too often will dry the hair or damage it and the hair will break off or become very coarse. It is extremely important not to get any of the paste in the eyes as serious damage can occur.

Leo still has an orange tint on his beard so I'm going to try it this weekend. I don't think I'm brave enough to put it near his eyes tho:blush: Do you put it right next to the eyes? Does it dry right away or is it kinda messy? I may only do one treatment since I've heard that tomato type sauce will wear off eventually:)
No after effects in the poop department :yay_jump:

I really don't do it close to the eyes; mainly on the beard/moustache/chin area. I can only imagine it getting into their eyes and causing serious eye problems so I just stay away from the eyes. The Tylan allows the new hair to grow out white and so as it grows, I treat the stained hair as it gets further away from the eyes. And it goes on wet and takes about 1/2 hour to completely dry. I also use my eyebrow (donated to a good cause for the kids stains) comb/brush to apply it and put it on with the brush part and then comb it through the hair to get all sides of the hair and not just the top section. It may take several comb throughs with the brush and paste to get complete coverage on the stained area.
Glad the poop department is ok. Soooooooooo how did he get hold of that chili????????

Please do not forget to CONDITION if you use the MOM. I can't say that enough. It is very drying to hair.

As a user of the MOM...........I absolutely agree!!! CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION.......otherwise you will be doing the hair a misjustice and you will find that you are creating a worse problem than the discolored hair.

okay...he was a little maniac when I got home and would have nothing to do with picture taking today! So this is the best I could do :D

I wonder if I should re-think the MOM treatment.:hmmm: While I bathe Leo every week, I wonder if a person needs to condition properly, like every day and have the time to do some serious grooming.
You were looking for a rare orange maltese weren't you?:lol2: :lol2: I was so confused when I first saw the orange beard not having a clue what happened.:lol2: :lol2: He's not too bad cause I acted so quickly but there is a definite orange tint which you can really see when it's wet.

Well, I had to really look hard to find the discolored area.............I don't think you want to use the MOM for that..........try to use a little of the bright white shampoo just on that area a couple of times and use a good conditioner and see if it doesn't come out. The MOM is really harsh but sometimes necessary, just don't think you are at that point for him.

Cathy, he did not look amused! I could not see too much discoloration, but he sure is a handsome guy though:luv:

Cathy, Leo looks pretty good to me. What a little stinker.
Our first Maltese Max got into a pizza when we weren't looking. He was on top of the table and had his face buried into the pizza!!! When he looked up at us his whole face was red. Took forever to get that one taken care of.

Thankfully, it's not too bad....however, I've worked thru tear stains, really bad haircuts, the gum thing:( and just when everything was looking good...the big sabotage to all my efforts  Maintaining an all white dog can be a challenge! :lol2: :lol2:
