As many of you may already know, I am thinking about getting a second little one. I have been really thinking hard as it is a hard decision to make when thinking about bringing another little one in the home. I would like to know how long you guys waited before bringing a second little one in the home? What is the age gap between your kiddies? Did you wait to train your first dog before getting a second one? Do you think its easier to have one dog or more than one dog? Do you leave your dogs together when you are not home or do you separate them? Sorry for all of the questions but I am getting ready to make a huge decision and I want to make sure that I am well informed and can do whats best not only for Cosmo but for my sanity as well:)

my boys are litter mates so it kinda rules out most of your questions:(
The boys were house trained before we got Abbie though, they were 11 months.
I cant answer the easier with one dog as i don't know but i think most will say that it gives the dog company. Mine are hysterical together the way they chase each other around & try to outsmart one another & i know they love each other very much:smlove2:
The boys are not separated when I'm out but Abbie is, if she had a sister then i would not separate those two. I know the boys are gentle with her but they are too big for unsupervised play:D
So when making your decision, I'd say try to make sure they are both going to be around the same size when adults.

Thanks Elaine! Thats soo cute that your boys were littermates. I am soo worried that they will not get along. Surprisingly I think I actually want a boy now so I would have two boys and you are right about wanting them to be the same size as adults. I know that I work 8 hours a day so Cosmo is at home by himself and I am still looking into doggy daycare and a dog sitter. I really think that Cosmo needs a playmate. We will see. Thanks for the input:)

Well I only have one:p so I am not much help here.
I think though you should wait, I think when Cosmo is maybe like a year or so it would be better, thats just my idiotic opinion:D I feel like to have a puupy and then get another one is too soon, I mean for me, maybe it isn't for you.
I am still scared and Nemo is 1 year and a 1/2 half. I would wait till like you and Cosmo are into like a routine and everything is settled. I think Cosmo is adorable and I think your perfect with him, I just dont want you to get overwhelmed, do you know what I am saying, or did I make a complete ass of myself!!!:D
Whatever you decide I am with you, and I know you are the type of person who is great at whatever you do!!!

Bucky was 10 months old and we had him for a little over 7 months when Sadie arrived. She irritates him nonstop, but I also think she is company for him. He has one of his "own kind" to be with now. Even though she pesters him, when they are apart, such as when she was spayed and we had to keep them separated for 10 days, he whined and moped for her. Even though they each have their own beds, they always sleep together. At times, they literally drive me crazy, but I think it was a good decision and I think they are each happy to have the other...

I LOVE bringing home extra doggies . Princess Charlotte was 6 months old when 8 month old Henry came to stay . Teddy came 6 months after that ( he's the same age too ) . When all of them were 3 - Baby Arabella arrived . All of my dogs were thrown together from day one . It is no harder looking after one than four - it just requires organization .Sarah

I got Chloe then waited until she was completely potty trained at a year old and then got Tinkerbell. Chloe helped teach Tink where to potty, so that was nice. I think it worked out very well for us.

Well, Crystal, you and I have talked at length and you know how I feel. I am soooooooo glad that we added a second dog to our family as it has made a world of difference in Kallie. They play a lot together and definitely keep each other company when I have errands to run...............and when I return, I see the evidence of them having played together as I always pick up the toys and put them in the "dog bed" before leaving. They are out of the dog bed and obviously someone has played with them. So I do recommend another dog.....WHEN???........I think only you can answer that and only you will know when is the right time!

well...
i got donbi feb of 2006...
and i got dueci in september of 2006
so thats like 7 months...
reason why i wanted a 2nd one was because i felt donbi was ready for a sibling :D
anyways i was wrong she is a spoiled little one... i noticed she loves everyone! even if she seems mean she really isnt...
only jadey and peter really know the real side of DONBI :D
haha just kidding anyways
after dueci, i realized he needed someone to sleep with all he did was cry when he was alone he missed having a littermate!
so he was suppose to get another brother in january but with health issues i got him a little sister right away in october of 2006
then everyone said to do it! and got a boy in november of 2006
yeah u know it is overwhelming but honestly if i had kids i probably stop at 2
but i dont have no one to take care of but myself and my boyfriend and my furkids so im not really overwhelmed...
they are my precious kids even when their bad to the bones sometimes!
i tell you this... i was not ready to have 4 but i love it!
i love having them all on my bed... when im watching a movie
i love how they all greet me... and i love how they jump around me and give me kisses every minute...
oh yeah 4 is overwhelming
2 is easy i think... but take ur time... there will always be cute puppies everywhere!
you are more then welcome to come over and babysit for me :D
when i had one... i wanted a 2 badly... when i had 2 i wanted a 3 badly and a 4 was a must... now 5 looks tempting but im going to stop because it would be greedy of me... only thing sucks about having 4 is dividing my love for them.. i wish i can take them out everywhere but it doesnt work out with 4 furkids... (well nevermind i take it back) im buying the buddylookout and all 3 go in there and donbi has her own. but that would mean if i get another dog my 5th the boyfriend would sit in the trunk so i think thats why he said no to the 5th... :D
well whatever you decide just be happy with it :)
cosmo is welcomed anytime!

Let's see..... I got Trixie in November of 2005, Scampers is March of 2006, Poptart in June of 2006, Destiny in September of 2006, and Sugar and Candy in October of 2006.
All together there are 8 dogs in the house. When I leave, I take 3 with me. sometimes I take 5 with me. The others all have company when I leave because they have each other to play with. I rotate the three dogs, well accept Peppi, she always goes. For me it is easier having more than one dog because when I leave I could leave two at home and they do better because they have someone to keep them company and play with. I remember having only one dog and she would get sooo lonely when we left. By having two or more dogs they can keep each other company so they won't be so bored or lonely. So I say yes to having two dogs!! The only real difference is the cost, vet bills, more food and other doggie supplies and oh yea the grooming. But the training has never been a problem for me. I train them on a one on one basis so that they get the best training so I have never waited for one dog to be completely trained before getting another, I just continue working with them and splitting the time so that they all get the right amount of training.
To me two is easy, it really isn't hard to do at all. They all have different personalites and two is twice the fun, especially since you get twice the amount of kisses and get to watch the two dogs play together and bond with each other. I really love having more than one dog, I don't think I could ever have just one dog again. Just make sure you have the time and money for two of them. Good luck on your decision, let us know what you decide!!

i got massimo march of 2004 and i just got my little girl, mini, this past december. i'm glad i waited. at first i didn't want another one, massimo was enough and he was perfect.
let me back up a bit. when i went to get massimo, i had pick of the litter. i was able to chose which ever one i wanted. i went there set on getting the only girl... and i had made it quite clear to the breeder that i wanted the little girl. after playing with them, i realized that i was in love with massimo. i was afraid to tell her at first, that i liked massimo... but i think she could tell. i asked her if it was at all possible to change my mind and chose a boy. she said "sure! you have pick of the litter, chose the one that most suits you, i just want you and the puppy to be happy." so...massimo came home with me....and i have been in love ever since.
i had been looking at girls for quite some time. i've always wanted a girl, so i guess that was always in the back of my mind.... but massimo went though a rough patch with his behavior...so i decided at that time i wasn't even going to think about it. he was aggressive and defiant and i thought that was going to be his permanent personality. i didn't want to add another dog to that type of situation. i'm SO glad it was only phase. it only lasted a few months, and that was about a year and a half ago. so, for the last 6 months or so, i had been actively looking for a little girl. for some reason i was very hesitant.....
then one day, i got some information that one of the breeders i was interested in may have a little girl available. i contacted her and i was sent pictures. as SOON as i saw her i KNEW i had to have her.
mini came to me only days later.... she's gorgeous and i'm glad to report she and massimo get along just fine. she is a bit pushy, some days she completely exhausts me.... and she's been known to aggravate massimo from time to time (ok, everyday!)... but all in all, things are great. when i have to go out with out them, she's kenneled and massimo is free. i'm hoping someday, when i can trust her, to allow her to have free run as well.
when i do take them with me, it's really no big deal...except watching mini like a hawk to make sure she doesn't mess.....
