Hello everyone...

Well, the girls and I were laying on the sofa watching t.v. I was in and out of napping, I couldn't fully fall asleep because Carlos was calling me frequently. LB was sleeping on the pillow near my head, Kira was sleeping by my feet. All of a sudden I hear some whimpering. LB jumped onto the floor and she was limping on her back left leg. I'm keeping an eye on her and if she continues to limp and guard her leg I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow. Carlos thinks she slept on it wrong and thinks she's getting better. I'm just so worried.

:( :( AWWW Poor LB..
It was an accident, I am sure she will be okay, good thing your going to the vet right away, this way your mind will be at ease!! It's so easy for them to get hurt. I watch Nemo like a hawk, but I still can't see everything, and he loves to run. They told me after Nemo's surgeryt no running no jumping:eek:
Well it's almost impossible, but I am trying:( ..
Laurie I will be praying for LB that all is fine, please give her a kiss from Nemo.. Don't be nervous it will be okay..

Thanks so much Andrea and Carol! She's no longer limping but she still seems to be guarding her leg. She's still running and jumping which my gosh I'm trying so hard to stop her from doing. She's no longer whining and whimpering. I've touched her leg and thigh and she's not whining in pain. I'm thinking of getting a playpen for her or isolating her in a room. I notice when she jumps on the sofa she's trying hard to not land on her back left leg. It's only 6:40 a.m. here so I have to wait to call the vet this morning to get her in.

I had called yesterday to see if I could bring LB to see her vet and the vet wasn't there :( He will be in this afternoon at 1:00. She was doing well, but still guarding her leg. Last night she and I were playing on bed playing tug of war with her stuffed reindeer then she started whimpering again, :( This time Carlos heard her. He started feeling her leg and she didn't cry. I'm hoping Dr. Johnson will let me know what's going on with her leg. We've been ensuring she doesn't do anything strenuous. She runs and jumps all over the place!

Hi All,

Sorry I didn't update sooner. We saw the vet and confirmed what I thought, LilyBelle has luxating patella:cry2: on her back left leg. The vet also mentioned that her back right is also starting to get it, but not as extensive as her left:crying:. Somehow I knew. LB is so active, jumping, leaping and running all over the place. Because of the breed's disposition for this I tried so hard to limit her, but she is just way too fast:( Well, the ortho vet is out of town till the 28th and I have her scheduled for Feb. 9. The scheduler at the office will let me know if there is any cancellation so I can move up the surgery. My vet says it's okay to wait till then, just to limit LB's movement, like that's an easy task. Thank you all so much for your care and concern.

Ooops I didnt see you reply when I posted.

I am so sorry that is awful. Gosh how do you limit their activity aside from caging them?

I just don't know how I can limit her movement. She's in her crate when we're not home. We're going to get some doggy steps for her her so she can stop trying to jump on the sofas and bed. Other than putting her in a pen, I don't know what else to do:cry2:, I know that's probably what's best for her but it will drive her crazy. But, if it's what I have to do, I'll do it:(

Yep sometimes we have to be cruel to be kind.

I am really sorry about this.

:cry2: :cry2: Oh Laurie I am so sorry, so sorry!!:(
As you know Nemo had the surgery December 4 on his left leg also, he also has Patella on the right, but it's not bad enough for surgery, it's the same situation~

All you can do is the best you can do to watch them, it's so hard I agree, but you can do it. Get that playpen and just limit her after the surgery.
We all will be here for you, you don't know how upset I am that this is happening to you, I feel terrible:(

Thanks so much for your concern, I just love you guys:hearts6: I'm so grateful to have you all as friends. I know that I can count all of you during this time. I just wish that LB could have her surgery sooner, but I want to wait for Dr. Johnson, he was the one who did her spay and he's wonderful, he'll be back on Jan. 28th. We saw Dr. Spencer who is sweet as can be but is not an orthaepedic specialist.

Thanks Sarah and Jadey for your prayers and well wishes, you don't know how much it means to me and LB:hug: . Jadey, sorry to hear about deuci:( I hope that your visit with the ortho doc goes well.

Unfortunately, I do understand that this is one of the genetic pre-dispositions of this beautiful breed. I would never have changed my mind about getting LB, not for one minute and Carlos is the same way. He is extremely supportive and he says, "Whatever it takes to get LilyBelle better." He loves her so much! Now if February 9 could just get here, the sooner LB can heal.

Thanks Andrea, I have just ordered that pen for LB. I'm going to get her used to it before the surgery. I don't how you, Bek and many others did it, keeping them quiet when all they want to do is play and love you. Just imagining it is heartbreaking.:(

I am glad that Nemo is doing great! It just makes me feel better that he's on the mend:) Please give him an extra hug from me and LB.

It made me very sad to read your post of LIlybelle having the LP and having to go through the surgery.......poor little baby! Kallie has grade 2 according to the vet but I am going with another vet and getting a second opinion although the first vet said no surgery was necessary as she is not limping or showing any indications of it. Thank goodness. I'll be thinking of you as the day draws nearer! I am sure she will be fine and she will be as good as new.:smlove2: Try not to worry TOO much!!:(

Carol, I hope that Kallie's second opinion goes well and won't have to go through the surgery. :crossfin:

It happened so fast! She displayed symptoms on Thursday and now she has grade 3 LP that needs surgery.

The doc thinks that it's from some traumatic event, which I'm sure is from her jumping and running everywhere. Geez, how can you stop a ball of white fluff when they are faster than you?:dogrun:

Thanks, I am hoping for the best......Kallie is four years old and seems like so many of the other dogs that have developed the LP have been younger......why do you think that is????

Kallie and Toby rip through the house playing and we've tried very hard to keep her from jumping off our bed.....she won't use the stairs we bought. It's so hard to keep them from being "dogs!" LOL This vet seemed very unconcerned..........and that worries me, so we shall see with the second opinion. Thanks for your concerns.
