Did anyone see CSI last night? I love the show, but it can be really disturbing. One of the cases was concerning dog fighting and they said they train them by running them on a treadmill mill until exhausted, beat them bloody, stregnthen their jaws, feed them smaller dogs and cats to get the taste of blood and then most of them die in the ring. On the show, they busted a dog fighting ring and they destroyed all the dogs because they were dangerous and the CSI asked why..it isn't the dog's fault, it is the owners and the cop said It is not illegal to train them to fight.

I know it's TV and it may be "hollywood-ized", but I had a hard time sleeping last night thinking about it. I feel bad for the dog and the small animals that are killed to train them. I think people involved in these situations should be thrown under the jail.

I taped it and will watch it today as it is one of my favorite shows. I knew if I watched it last night, I would have been like you and not slept a wink.

It is truly sad that this goes on but it does. Just like that football player being involved in a dog fighting ring and getting a light sentence. It just does not seem to fit the balance of crime verses justice. JMO

I so agree with your opinion. I don't want to spoil the whole episode for you, but Nick says to one of the dog trainers "There are two things a jury hates- those that abuse kids and those that abuse animals." I so agree.

I guess you guys have figured out by now how much I adore animals (included but not limited to zo zo:D ) and I think they are such innocent souls. Having a dog is a wonderful priveledge and they should be treasured, never hurt. JMO:wink5:

And a good opinion indeed. Children and animals have no voice really and both are extremely trusting so they are easy to take advantage of. The ASPCA has some vids on their site showing some of the most horrible ways animals (especially dogs) are being treated. I could not watch them once I saw the first vid and the many pics. It is scarey to think that there are people out there with this mentality towards children and animals.........scarey indeed, that they may walk next to us in stores, live next door to us, etc. Their minds have to be messed up!!!

I am sure if I saw those videos, I would never sleep again. Don't get me wrong, I know sticking your head in the sand is not a solution, but I also know somethings you can't erase from your memory.

People who can hurt children and animals are sick, sick people. I agree that it is strange to think you are surrounded everyday by these people.

I am glad to know the opposite side of this coin. People (like my MT family) who love, cherish and protect animals.

Just to show you how things stick in your mind and what you view is not easily forgotten. As a child I watched an "educational" show on the use of animals for testing. What a huge mistake that was.:( :( It was for real and I just stared at the TV thinking, this just can not be and how could any human do this to a poor animals........an educated scientist at that. They were doing test on pigs to see the reaction and resulting effects of treatments for burns. So they had a blow torch and proceeded to burn the hide of the living pigs. They had removed their vocal cords so that the pigs could not make any sound.......I am sure for the benefit of the scientists so that it might not touch the scientists' humane feelings. And they did this to several pigs and treated each of them differently to find the best possible procedure to assist when a human is burned. I can see that picture and scene as clearly today as I did the day I watched over 47 years ago. So what we view can stay with us for a very long time.:( :(
