Just curious how many MT members clip the toe nails of their furbabies and how many have them done.
I do them myself.....:D

I do both
We clip Zo zo's nails a little when we bathe her weekly, but leave the "serious cutting" to her groomer every 8 weeks.

They are a bit more difficult to cut but with practice, it gets easier but still makes me nervous.

I have cut Poochie's and Skippy's but Henry & Teddy, I'm too scared that I will cut into the quick since they have black nails. So they get done by the groomer. Our vet trims Max's nails.

I used to do it myself but I cut the quik one too many times and Leo just won't let me any more...i keep trying but can only get a few in the front, forget about the dew claws and the back completely so off to the groomers from now on.
Poor Leo:( .....I told him I was sorry but no forgiveness:o

How come the vet trim's Max's nails (and not the groomer)? And who trims Alex and Lolita's nails ? And with a dremel or a nail clippers?:D

I tried to use the Dremel so I tried it on mine first  I found it made the nail bed tremble too much for my liking and when I tried it on Scrappy I just didn't hold each nail firmly enough to stop the tremble so I just use doggy nail clippers and like Elaine said I just take off the bit that is starting to curl under on black nails.

The groomer does Jack's nails. He gets a good walk every day so that helps with keeping them trimmed down.

No thank you, I would DIE if I ever cut into the quick.
My cat, Paprika, is so calm I can cut his, he just lays in my lap and goes to sleep. His nails are so much eaiser for me to see for some reason. I can just put some pressure on his paw and "OUT" they come to trim.
enJOY!

Max's nails are soooooo thick Elizabeth and black and I'm just too scared. Max never goes to the groomer. You know he's a German Shepherd, right?:D My husband and I do Alex and Lolita's nails. They are very easy to do. We use clippers on the birds. I don't do them all at one time tho. You know, a snip here a snip there. lol

I've always clipped Pip's myself. Daisy had some traumatic nail clipping experiences at the groomers years ago. She also hates the Vet doing it because she used to muzzled her and has cut the quick more than once  . Now it's down to me but I have to say she is still very ornery about it and she knows how to squirm at just the wrong time :D

I can't do them. I'm afraid they are going to squirm and I'm going to cut the quick. I don't think I could forgive myself if I did that. So I either let Adam do it or I take them somewhere.

I do all their nails myself. I have been cutting nails for a good 8 years so it doesn't bother me. Once you know how to do it, it is very easy to do. I haven't cut any quicks either and most of my furbabies have black nails. It is just something you have to learn and be comfortable with and of course get the dogs comfortable with. Mine are so use to getting their nails clipped that they will give you their paws and in about a minute I can have all their nails clipped.
I can't say the same for my family and friends though. They always come to me to clip their dogs nails because they are afraid they will do it wrong.

Actually, I did know that Max was a German Shepard (and therefore, would not go to the groomer) Oopsy! Marco would call this a "Jessica moment".:lol2: I had one on our first trip to Disney. We were in a hurry to get to the park and stopped for a quick bite at McDonalds and someone had painted "Welcome to Mickey D's" on the window. He said "Well, that's appropriate" and I said "Why?". He didn't answer. Just sat there looking at me!!:lol2: :lol2:
No problems with the birds? Marco can get one or two done before Peanut has had enough. Then, he does one or two the next day. There is a store here that uses a Dremel on the birds, but we have never tried that (I think she may freak out with that-I know I would if someone came at me to cut my nails with one!!)
