walking down stairs

are your maltese also afraid to go down a long staircase or is it just enzo? He climbs all the way up on his own fine but he's afraid to go down. So far when I put him on the first step, he continues down the whole thing. For some reason he will whimper while he's up there but when i put him on the first step he's fine. Any suggestions?

When Zoe was a puppy, she would have no problem going UP stairs, just hesitating going down. We have two sets of stairs and in the last week, she is refusing to come down into the basement (but the stairs are steep and the floor is slippery). As I am typing this, she is crying on the stairs. I don't want to keep getting her because I know she will "train" me to do that and not get over this fear. She eventually did overcome her stairs phobia as a pup, so I am hoping she will get over this too

Ohhh Vinny does NOT do stairs, up or down, Hope is too little and my 2rescues do them like champs.

your so lucky! i would love a house without stairs
my furkids and my mom's maltese they ZIP through the stairs and it scares me to death.
I personally dont want them to go up & down the stairs. In the beginning I wanted them to run up and down the stairs but now I'm so scared.

Jesper will only go up and down stairs with carpeting, if they're wood he'll just sit there and look at you. My morkie has no problem running up and down them.
