OK, so we got to class late (not according to my watch, but whatever).

The trainer is telling us there is a spot just to her left, Marco and I are taking off our coats and he is saying I should go and I am saying he should go...So, I did and we wander off and Zoe is sniffing and curious about the other dogs. We review the eye contact, sit and down and she does well, but is barking every once in a while (and really wants to talk to Cooper, the boston terrier next to her). Maui the pit bull is really cute and very nice. Then there is one mini dachsand, a bigger dog (I have no idea what it is, but looks a little like a German shepard), and a pug.

Zoe starts barking while the trainer is talking and she asks me to get her attention and I am trying, but Zoe is still goofing around. She did all three tasks and it turns out half the class uses a food lure to get the dogs to do "Down" and the others don't (Zoe is in the first group, but this is new). Then we start with sit and stay for 3 second and she gets it right away. Then we all move to chairs where we start with "healing" and Marco takes over. The trainer thinks Marco has to crouch lower because Zoe is intimidated, so she did it and it worked well. Then they did some loose leash walking and she did well, but didn't make as much eye contact as a couple of the other dogs. Then comes "Come". I am holding the leash and Marco gets out in front of her and she does it great. Twice in a row. :bounce:

We got our homework for next week. Review of sit and down, longer sit and stay for 10 seconds, heel, loose leash and restrained recall (Come).

I was frustrated a little in the beginning because of the barking (and she wasn't the only one barking), but I was so proud when she did Come so well.

Lessons for next week:

Be on time
Work on No Bark (the trainer said we should click and reward this just like the other commands)
Don't be kibble in the reward bag (she just spit it out-she wants the special treats)

I have a couple of heel videos I will post later.

Elizabeth, I'm so glad Zo Zo is doing great. She's a very
smart gal:)
That video shows how good she is doing, but poor Marco,
did his back ache after? He had to crouch so low.
But, she's doing fantastic! I can't wait to hear about
week 3.

Thanks Laurie.:hearter:

Yeah, Marco is over 6 feet tall and well, you know how short Zo zo is.

I am attaching the VERY short video of the trainer working with her and she's much shorter than Marco. Marco said looking back, he should have done the first part and I do the heeling. The objective is that as she learns to heel, we eventually will just walk normally.http://s208.photobucket.com/albums/bb171/lizboo_2007/?action=view&current=2008053.flv

:lol2: :lol2: LOL, when you said short, I didn't know you meant don't blink your eyes short:sidesplit:

I totally have to give you lots of credit for teaching her to heel. Kira knows
everything but heel. I didn't have the patience to teach her and now I'm
paying the price.

Keep up the great work Elizabeth and to Marco too! Oh, and I can't forget
about Zo Zo!

She did "Down" tonight without the lure (dragging the food to the floor). Funny thing is she goes directly from "Sit" to "Down".:lol2: :lol2:

Keep up the great work with her. She is doing a wonderful job. It will all pay off in the end....believe me.

Oh Elizabeth...........it looks like Zo zo is having a ball with the classes. Poor Marco and his back. I've never seen the "heel" process being taught like that! We were taught to always start out with the dog in a sitting position to our left side, to call their name and give the "heel command" with a slight tug on the leash. Taking a few steps and always finishing with the left foot and telling them the "sit command." The reward was strictly verbal. Eventually my poodle was able to walk without a leash at all but it was a lot of work and repetition but oh so worth it! You and Marco are doing a great job and are inspiring me to get started working on getting my three kids into shape. They know a lot but there is so much more they can learn.

I LOVE ZO ZO VIDEOS!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!!:hearter: :hearter: :hearter:
