Should I take the litter boxes up. I want him to go potty outside only but don't want to abruptly take them away and have an accident. He is 18 weeks old, and has been having accidents or marking issues. He is doing a great crate training schedule and it seems to be working, and he is using his litter box less. I was thinking of getting a belly band and putting it on him to see if he is going to still mark in the house and to see if he has accidents. I probably won't be using the band for a month to get him on our schedule of potty outside. I watch him like a hawk when inside and he either sits on my couch with me or plays for a bit on the floor, but other then that if I can't watch him its off to his crate. So, should I just remove the litter boxes or leave them? I just don't want to confuse him. Thanks for the advice, I am also new to hear. Thanks.........Jill oh my baby's name is Clifford.

:mtwelcome: Jill and Clifford to our family. Clifford sounds like a real sweetie.
I have never used the litter box to train.
Are you home all day with him? If you are, you could just scoop him up and take him outside every hour or so to the special area were you'd like him go and tell him to go potty. If he does, praise him right away and give a tiny little treat. Do this each time until he gets the idea to go outside. Then you can cut down on the treats and just give lots of praise.
Remember, they are not considered fully potty trained until they go at least 1-2 months without an accident in the house.
It takes alot of patience.
Some of the other members might be able to help better with the litter box idea.
Jill, I am the birthday greeter for the forum. If you and Clifford would like a greeting from us on your special day, please PM the info (name, date, and year..esp. for Clifford). If you are married and have kids, I do them too and anniversaries.
Glad to see you posting right away. We love pictures too.

I've never used the litter box training with any of my babies so really don't want to give you any advice in that area because I am clueless. I stay home so it was rather easy to housetrain my kids but they were all older when I adopted them which means they were capable of holdling it longer than a puppy so it was much easier to train them.
Cheryl gave you some good advice. "Schedule" potty time outside and allow him outside only for potty training until he gets the idea. Patience, lots of reward and watching him like a hawk helps. If he is marking, perhaps some of the other members may be able to give you some suggestions regarding the removing of the boxes and belly bands.
We could sure use a picture fix of Clifford!!!!:D :D :D
Again, Welcome to the forum Jill and Clifford!
