Well, Mr. Toby will be going through a six week course of basic traning. I stopped in to see the trainer/instructor today with Toby in hand and explained my "issues" with her regarding Toby. She said that personal training classes would not be of any help to Toby........he needs some socialization skills in a class setting with other dogs to interreact with. I also bought what they call an "easy lead" collar used in their training classes. She said that he would fight it at first since it actually controls his "yapper" and does not injure the trachea. I had them put it on and he did fine with it. I really think it depends on the "connection" you have with your fluffbutt as to how they will respond to different things. He trusts that I would never hurt him and was very attentive to our walk around the room. I am sure he will do fine with it. I can use the same lead for the girls since they are all similar in size. So what I learn in class from Toby's training sessions, I will use with the girls. It starts in March so I can start practicing with him now. :) All I am hoping to get out of this class is a socialized Toby that will not act aggressive with other dogs. She did say it may not fix his problem as sometimes it is just "genetics." :( :( :( I'm hoping he has some friendly genes inside somewhere.

Good for you Carol!!! I know Mr Toby will do great (and his mom too). He loves you so much, so I know he will want to do what you ask of him. :hearter: :hearter:
The best advice I can give you that we have learned over the three weeks of training with Zo zo is to be on time, to be aware when you get frustrated he will sense it and get one of those stretchy things for the clicker because handling the clicker, treats and leash can be tricky (another poster gave me the last bit of advice). I am curious how Toby's training will be alike and different from Zo zo's. Please let us know how it goes.

They do not use the clicker method, they do the gentle lead and praise technique. I am use to that so it will be like a refresher course for me! We used the choker line 30 some years ago but things change and thank goodness it is always for the better! :)

With our first Maltese Max we used the chocker collar in training class.
With Jack we used the harness collar and that's what we use now.
