I was wondering what type of dryers everyone uses on their Maltese? I saw some for sale on a pet supply website, but they all really look like wet/dry vacs you get at Home Depot.

I use something like the Andis too but I found it awkward to dry the top without taking it out of the stand - thus losing one hand :(
So I bought another hand :D :

It will take the Andis type as well as the tube dryer shown.
While looking for a picture for the above, 'cos there's no way I could have described it  I also found this all-in-one combo, for your kind consideration m'am :) :

I find this top-down drying helps to keep the frizzies away much better.
Suggest you buy a dryer with at least two speeds/heat settings and air-only as well would be good if you can find one.

I have been using a human hair dryer and put it on low heat, low air and switch the dryer from one hand to the other as that thing gets heavy! I might think of "buying another hand." Sometimes the hubby will lend a "hand" and help me blow dry them and it sure makes it a lot easier.:D :D

I use a human hair dryer, too. I bought an Elchim about a year ago for myself and loved it. It's expensive (I think around $100), but it doesn't damage the hair and it leaves the hair nice and soft. (I sound like a commercial here  ).

When I got Parker, I decided to try it out on him and it works great on his hair, too. But you have to adjust the setting. A friend of mine uses it on her two long hair shih tzus and it cut the drying time in half...and there's no hair damage.

I don't recommend it for dogs who don't like loud noises, cause it's not quiet. Plus, it's hand held...so if you prefer both hands free, then the Elchim isn't good for you.

I use a dryer for humans as well. I'm definitely looking into getting a dryer with a stand. I do get tired after a while holding the dryer then brushing at the same time.

I think the noise is about the same, but some dogs don't like the sound of blow dryers. I purchased mine from the hair salon that I go to. Not all hair salons sell or use them, though. But you can buy them online. I use the Elchim 2001.

If you google "elchim" several links will appear where you can purchase them, like folica.com or hairdryers4u.com.

Thanks, I will certainly look into it as I am always trying to be more time efficient so I can spend more time on Maltesetalk!:p :p :p But none of my babies are bothered by the nose of a blow dryer.

I just emailed my friend who uses the Elchim on her two Shih Tzus, and she still swears by the product. Shih Tzus are double coated, and her dogs are in a long or full coat. One is cottony, and the other is silky. She said it dries their hair the fastest than any other blow dryer she has ever used, and that the product is still holding up after using it for a year on both dogs. Now, I really sound like a commercial here :awink:

If you get it for your baby, then I hope it works out for you. If not, then you can use it on yourself ;)

Thanks for everyone's reply.:p

I use one of my older hairdryers for Zoe set on Warm. I also use the "hubby extra hand" method of drying when possible, but I like the third hand stand option.

Does the "third hand" stand hold the dryer high enough to blow down on them rather than cross fire?????

Well that depends on the height of the dog and where you put the clip that does not hold the dryer :p
Seriously though Pip is 81/2 lbs and it's fine for him when anchored on the grooming table or the worktop. If you have a grooming table with a groomers arm, you could anchor it anywhere along the height of the arm. That comes in handy for my Westie who would have to keep ducking her head using Pip's set up :D

No grooming table, thus no grooming arm..........:D :D :D Guess I will just have to do it with the help of the hubby! I did Kallie and Toby all by myself with no problem..........they are very cooperative until I get to the face and then we have a little struggle.:(
