Any thoughts on how to stop Lizzie from Jumping up while we are eating dinner ? We don't give her any people food other than carrots and then
not near the table.
She just doesn't get it and I don't want to put her in her pen while we eat.
We have been firm with her telling her down and taking her away from the table.Even tried to get her to settle on a blanket but that only lasts a few minutes if we are lucky. So how do you all deal with this ?

I try to feed the kids at the same time we eat and while they will give us a little peace, they do leave their food and come over to the table. I have just repeated the word "no".........and gently pushed them off if they are touching us with their paws. After a few times of doing this, now they just sit there and wait.......just in case something gets dropped. Kallie will sit up up pretty and beg but never utters a word and we just ignore her and she eventually settles down. The other two just sit there. Takes time and my kids are older and I do think that makes a difference in many of the situations that have been presented on this forum by young pup owners. It gets better as they get older. I promise , it really does. Repetition!!!

You also might try giving her some rawhide or something that will take her a bit to eat or chew to keep her attention away from when you are sitting at the table but allowing her near enough so she does not feel isolated.

John, Carol made some good suggestions. Like she said, just keep up the telling her no and putting her in her spot in a good 'down'-'stay' position and don't give in....ever.
Did Lizzie get doggy school training at all? Once Jack learned his sit, down, stay commands, we don't have any problems.

Yes Lizzie dod clicker training back in October, they didn't deal with this though.
I have been giving her Milk Bones when we sit down, but she is in to hiding them for Later and comes right back to the table.

Thanks Carol, I can certainly try that !

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: so Lizzie has her little stash.........too cute! What about a bullie stick, most dogs seem to like them and will not hide them but start to chew on them right away. How about a gong filled with goodies???? I used the gong with the kids when we would leave and it worked great as they were intent on getting to those goodies and not concerned with us leaving. I stopped using the gongs when we got Brandy because of the "treat" aggression between her and Toby. I will get back to using them when they start to adjust to each other better. But a gong keeps them busy for a bit.
