View Full Version : Please pray for Bernie

I'm off today, so got up early, gave the furkids a bath and a groom and have been going about my day...Bernie has been very happy in his sunspot on the floor, so I haven't been paying too much attention to him. Then we went to take him out and he didn't want to go with us. This is really odd behavior, so dh picked him up and carried him outside...
Anyway, he's not using his back left leg (the side he has pins on)...and when he stands its shaking. It was even shaking when we were holding him. Poor guy is dragging that leg around and looking pathetic.
Called the vet and we are leaving in about 20 minutes. He's been doing so well, you'd never even know he'd been through his earlier trauma...
(for those who don't know or remember his story, he's our rescue baby who was found on the street after getting run over by a car. The rescue got him to a great surgeon who did a wonderful job of putting him back together...he's had an uphill battle but has been doing so well!!!!)
I hope this is just some kind of minor injury from jumping off the furniture. I hope my sweetie isn't backsliding!!!
I know the power of YT prayers and well wishes, so thought I'd post this here.
Judy and Bernie
p.s. Bernie sends his love, even though he's a little sad right now.

An update...
Well, so far it's a mystery. Nothing is broken, no sprain, the pins seem okay.
He's eating and drinking...but now that we are back home he's so depressed/lethargic...I brought him in, covered his bed with a clean sheet and laid him on it. He hasn't moved once and it's been a couple of hours. That's so not like him.
I brought him food and water. He did eat, but didn't drink.
Sorry I didn't come back sooner, I've been focusing on him and on getting the other furkids cared for.
It's so strange to only have one yorkie following me around...I'm worried sick. :( :( :(
Thanks again, and please keep him in your prayers. I'll be on and off all night, I'm sitting here beside him on the floor with laptop at hand...just waiting for some kind of improvement.
I'll keep ya posted.

Well, at least you have had him checked out and found nothing visibly wrong so that is a good thing. Maybe a few days he will be better. As I told Teri earlier Kallie limped after falling and then would not walk on it for a whole day. Just when I was about to take her to the vet and have it checked, she was fine and walking on it with no problems and within two days, running on it. So don't know what was wrong but it fixed itself. Keeping you in my thoughts and thanks for updating us. I know you are worried! I will worry with you! xoxox

Judy my son's shih tzu had a problem with her leg and it was luxating patella. She is old so they didn't do surgery but the vet gave her joint medication and she does well now. I hope Bermie wakes up today and is fine.

When I woke up this morning I carried Bernie outside. He went potty (both kinds) which was amazing because last night he just stood their on his 3 legs refusing to move and looking pathetic.
Of course, he hobbled underneath a bush, went potty and then decided not to move anymore. LOL, had me crawling under bushes at 7 in the morning in the snow. But, what a huge improvement from last night!!!!
He also drank water this am, something we couldn't get him to do after we got home from the vets. Yaay Bernie!
He's resting, but keeps trying to resituate himself (again, a lot more movement then last night).
Thanks again to EVERYONE for all their well wishes and advice. You are all so kind. Bernie sends his love.
I will keep you updated.

A little progress is "great news." Even if you did have to crawl under bushes, in the snow at 7AM..............just shows what a good mommy you are! I am so glad to wake to an improved Bernie! I hope he each moment is a better moment for him and YOU! If you need any more distractions, just IM me! :) Enjoyed our chat last night! Keep us updated! BIG HUG TO YOU AND PATS FOR BERNIE & SWEET GINGER!!! :)

So happy to see Bernie up and moving around. There is a terrible dog flu going around, my son's dog got it and his in-laws dog got it too.
Hope all goes well tomorrow at the vet. Bernie is such a little cutie pie.
Please PM me your pet's birthday so I can get it on my calendar. Don't forget to include the year born. Hope you join in on the fun.

Thank you! The thing is it came on so suddenly...he is at the vet today for more extensive testing:( I hated leaving him, but need to do whatever we can to help him.
His spirits were completely restored this am though. He kept trying to get me to take him for a walk!!!:) Of course, mommy knows best and I kept him right here beside me.
I'll post an update when we know more.
Carol - I love your avi. You are the best!!!! Thanks everyone!!!!!

Bernie had surgery in 2006. He had been run over by a car and had his pelvis repaired. (This was before he came to live with us).
It was extensive surgery, but he recovered.
Turns out his pain was because one of his pins had loosened and was migrating. As soon as we found this out, we contacted his original surgeon and they removed the pin.
He's recovering from surgery now, but the vet expects him to return to normal use of the leg!
Thank you all for your support!!!

Jack sends a low five to his pal Bernie. He didn't want him to jump up for a high five with his having surgery. My best wishes for a speedy recovery. Don't forget to send me Bernie's birthdate. (and Ginger's too:awink: )
