I just got a female maltese puppy. We named her Jewel. According to her registration papers she is 12wks old but her breeder said she is 10wks old. She weighs 1.5lbs today at the vet. How big will she get?

It is truly hard to figure out how small they will stay or how big they will get because a lot of it has to do with genetics and the size of the parents, grandparents, etc..............regardless of size, the maltese is a wonderful breed to be owned by. My girls are beyond the standard at 10.6 pounds but I love them just the same. I am sure your little Jewel will be everything you expect and more.

Congratulations!!!!

Thanks for the information! I have a 7lb yorkie and 2 resuced maltese that are 5 and 4 lbs. I took Jewel to the vet and he said she looks good and everything is fine except that she has a heart murmer. He said it is worse then the normal puppy murmer so she probably won't out grow it. Does anyone have any experience with a puppy/dog with a murmer? Should I do anything different with her?

It is hard to say how much my Chipper weighs. He is a maltese chihuahua mix. I had him weighed at Pet Smart on Tuesday and they said he weighed 6lb 8oz.
The next day the vet said he weighed 7lb 12oz.

I am so VERY sorry your Jewel has a murmer. I would hope your Vet can help you with this issue. Also, I will keep her in my prayers.

And Carol, your "girls" are as beautiful as they can be, and they would not be more beautiful at any other size. They are perfectly lovely.

God bless,
Melanie
