Got this article out of the paper.
The internet is offering reports and videos on Guillermo Vargas, a Costa Rican artist whose recent work includes finding a sick dog in the street and tying it in the corner of a gallery for people to look at.
Accounts differ as to whether the dog starved to death while being an artwork or was just allowed to wander off and die after being an artwork!!!!
You can sign an online petition at www.petitiononline.com/13031953/petition.html
asking that Vargas be uninvited from an upcoming major Central American art show.

I went to the site and it is in Spanish.

I think he should be prosecuted for doing this with the dog. And shame on all the people who stared at the poor thing and did nothing to help it.

That is so awful Cheryl. How could you see such a pitiful sight and not help the poor dog? Some people's definition of art is just so sick.

Wow...... http://elperritovive.blogspot.com/ This is a literal translation.

What I know the dog died the following day from lack of food. During the inauguration I found out that the dog was followed through the aluminum and cardboard houses of the town of Managua with the name of a saint which I can't remember at the moment. 5 kids helped capture the dog and got a payment of 10 córdobas (their dollar) for their assistance. During the exhibition some people requested the freedom of the dog, but the artist refused. The name of the dog was Nativity and he died of starvation in front of all the visitors, like if the death of the poor dog were some kind of shameless media show which people only applauded or looked disconcerted.

Definitely we are the ones that read: puras croquetas.(have no clue how to translate this)

Where the dog was exhibited the only thing left is the metal cable and a cord. The dog was extremely sick, limped and didn't want to eat anyways, so in a natural enviorment he would have died anyway; but that is the way all the poor dogs are: late or early they die or they kill them.

The ironic part is that in the entrance of the gallery it said "you are what you read" spelled out in dog food.

It is so heart breaking to hear stories such as this one, I wish I could seriously rescue all animals from this sort of abuse and neglect...and how on god's green earth do these sicko's get away with this? The wrong animal died in this story.

Maggie, thanks for the translation!!!! I would have gotten a group of people together and stormed that place and taken the dog by force if need be. If he was that sick they should have humanely had him put down.
Maybe if I had broken all the things in the gallery for my version of 'art' he would have gotten the hint. And I would not buy one thing from the owner of the gallery either.
And, yes, the wrong animal did die. God will see to that.
