If you had a chance to watch Oprah today or catch her show later tonight, you will see a program on puppy mills. The Humane Society is suppose to be on there too. I guess it is suppose to be pretty graphic at times, but if her show can reach out to people and stop them from buying at pet stores and byb, then it's worth it.

I have watched the show and from beginning to end I was crying from beginning to end.:cry2:
There's not much that hasn't been said here in the forum or any dog forum about puppy mills.
The only thing I'm glad about is that it will now be known more about how inhumane these puppy mills are and what the ramifications these mills do.

I saw it too Laurie. It was horrible. I don't see how people can do that. Maybe more people will realize how bad it is now.

I hope so too Debbie.
I've made that mistake. I was one of those who had found her baby through the internet. Actually through our online newspaper. I didn't know any better:cry2:. I was ignorant.
So far the only health issue with LilyBelle is her luxating patella, which so far hasn't progressed for the worse, she hasn't displayed any symptoms in such a very long time. Thank God. Otherwise she's healthy. We constantly monitor her. She gets regular checkups and my vet monitors her as well.
Now that I am more educated in this issue I will never ever buy from a pet store, I will always buy from a reputable breeder or adopt from a shelter or rescue. My babies will always be spayed or neutered and all their vaccinations will be up to date.
I love my 2 girls with all my heart and I hope that by loving them as much as I do it makes up for any mistake I have made in the past.
Thank you all for letting me vent:o
I getting off my 9709 now.:o

Laurie you have done great with your babies. My son's shih-tzu has luxating patella. They couldn't do much because she is ten. We finally found a vet who gave her a joint supplement and she is doing much better.
I just read in the paper a local shelter euthanized 17 dogs because a parvo outbreak. They euthanized all dogs under 5 whether they showed symptoms or not. This shelter only opened in late February. This is so awful.

I watched Oprah last night and started crying the moment they did the memorial piece on her dog Sophie and didn't stop crying until the credits were rolling at the end of the show.
It made my stomach turn how horrible those dogs are treated. It was so sad to see how they didn't even know how to walk on level ground, the horrible health most of them are in and how the poor females are just over bred and then just shot when they no longer have use for them.
I hated watching the part about the shelter in Houston, TX and how they put down over 40 a day. I couldn't watch that poor wonderful healthy looking dog they took and showed how they humanely put him down. I think I cried the hardest at that point. Jack was on my lap and I was crying so hard he woke up and started licking my tears.
Thank goodness for the wonderful people who do the rescue runs and the Humane Society for being there to discuss this issue.
The poor little Maltipoo Shrimp was the worst looking little thing I've ever seen, and then how he looks now was a miracle. He was the cutest guy, and he just laid on his owners lap and slept.

Debbie, I'm sorry to hear about your son's Shih Tzu having LP, but I'm glad she is doing better with a supplement. I'm doing that with LilyBelle so I'm hoping that's helping her keep her LP in check.
That's so awful about that shelter doing that to all those dogs :cry2: That's so heartbreaking...

Cheryl, you are so right about the show! My eyes are still sore this morning from all that crying. From beginning to end!
LB and Kira were with me the whole time trying to console me. Usually Kira barks at the TV when he sees other dogs on it, but she was quiet the whole time.
I cried the hardest when they were humanely putting down that gorgeous dog. :cry2:

Carol, it is a good thing you didn't watch the show. I think you would've been worse off than me.
