If you go to the Humane Society's site you can find 8 things to do to help get rid of puppy mills.
1. Sign the Stop Puppy Mill pledge
2. Get a free copy of the puppy buyer's guide
3. Ask your local federal legislators to crack down on puppy mills
4. visit www.StopPuppyMills.com
5. Download campaign badges and banners to your own My Space, blog or website
6. Adopted a dog? Order a free Proud to Adopt care package.
7. Download Puppy Mill Cruelty flyers and post them in your community
8. Help HS with placing advertisements and billboards in your community

The more we get informed on this horrible situation the better we will be to help end it. I just wish more people would understand the pain these precious animals have to endure for the sake of the almighty dollar.

GOOD POST CHERYL!!!! AN INFORMED PUBLIC IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING!

It is too bad that those "cute" little puppies in petstores can not tell their story!!!! Too bad the "petstores" do not stop buying from puppymills!!!

We were talking about this the other day, what happens if no one buys the dogs in the store ? they will probably end up in the shelters as well but may take a little longer. Its really too bad, very sad situation.

They should have to certify where the dogs come from in order to sell them
....sure they would find a loop hole somewhere though.

You are right John; even if pet stores offer puppies with certification of sorts, they would find a loop whole somewhere along the line to convince possible buyers that they are getting a quality dog! I REFUSE to go into any petstore that sells puppies...........because I can not stand to look into the eyes of those little lost souls knowing where they have come from. I am such a sap!!! I have rescued two maltese knowing that Kallie came from a puppymill in Oklahoma and Brandy from the looks of her feet/face/coat/etc, she most likely came from one too! Brandy's behavior indicated it also. But I knew with both of them what I was getting into and took the risk and they have been the greatest sweet darlings. Toby was bought from a private person that purchased them from a "breeder" but not sure because of the location of the breeder that he did not come from a byb but he is in good health and no issues. I am very thankful for all three of my "shady background sweethearts.":hearter: :hearter: :hearter:

With that said I do not recommend "rescue" to everyone unless you have time to invest for personality/behavioral issues, money for health issues and patience to deal with the unknown.

For sure, I WOULD NEVER NEVER EVER BUY FROM A PETSTORE!!!!!!

I so agree with not going into any store that has puppies for sale. I wouldn't give them my money for anything they might have to offer.

And those pet stores already pull one over on buyers by saying and showing the certificates that these puppies come from breeders. Even famous people like Paris Hilton got her puppy at a swank pet boutique and paid big bucks for a pup that was from a mill.
