I am so upset last night I got a call from a church friend that had been talking to me for several months about getting a maltese she had been over to viist all of mine and decided to go for it. She found a 11 week old puppy about 3 hrs away for $750 and she bought it that was 2 1/2 weeks ago now the part that makes me so mad after having her for 2 1/2 weeks she decided she needs to sell her she just didn't expect her to be so much trouble (I told her over and over how it would be like bringing a new baby home for awhile and she and her husband were so excited and all for it) I just was lost for words when she called me last night she hasn't given the poor puppy enough time to get settled now she is going to run and ad in the paper and try to sell her. I already am at my limit with 5 maltese or I would take her in a heartbeat. Just needed to vent thanks. Any advice on what more I can say to her to give the puppy more time I really think they would give her a very good home if they could get past this initial period.

This is a horrible story!!! Poor baby just needs time to settle in......maybe if you explain about the little one being ripped from the mother and now she has to fill those shoes; maybe suggestions about crating or an x-pen. If she can't deal with a maltese pup, she'll not be able to deal with "any" breed! If she bought her from a good breeder, suggests she call the breeder and see if the breeder will take her back and refund a portion of her money, maybe all of it (breeders are passsionate about their dogs being in good homes). Tell her to join MT and get some suggestions or see how others have handled some of the situations she is facing, search the archives, or even post questions to get her through the rough spots. In the long run, she will not be diappointed. Tell her to post her on MT as that way she will find a good home if she is insistant on selling her. I knew myself that dealing with "puppy" issues was not within my desired abilities (lol)..........that is why I went with older dogs (six months, 2 and 2 1/2).

My friend called me back this morning and her and her husband had a long talk and have reconsidered they will be keeping her at least for now. I encouraged her to get an x pen and why she said she would do that, she had been letting her have run of the house and I said oh no can't do that...anyway I told her I was glad to hear they had changed their mind and I was here if she needed me. Thanks guys for listening...I did encourage her to join this group

But if baby is too much trouble in two weeks its best they get her a better home for the pets sake.

I really think they were overwhelmed that's why I didn't say anymore than I did last night. This morning they have a better outlook about it. They had a family medical emergency last weekend and it sorta threw them for a loop. The lady had really done the research before she got the puppy so I am praying it all works out.

I want to wish your friend good luck with their new puppy. I hope that things settle down for the family and the puppy does have it's great forever home.

God bless,
Melanie

Sorry I haven't updated before now we have had some really bad weather here (Arkansas) 7 people lost their lives last week due to tornado's and high wind. Plus, I am moving very slow due to a broken leg. Anyway, my friend is doing good with little Lilly she came over Friday and brought supper from us and she had Lilly with her my friend just beamed so I think it will be fine.

I said the same thing to Belinda but she refused to listen and filled my order anyway..........she's some gal, isn't she. Bakes and grooms with a broken leg!.........she is our little energizer bunny (with a broken leg)! :)

Hope your leg heals quickly Belinda. When we first got Chipper I was not thrilled at all. He was given to my little girl as a gift. The puppy stage can be hectic. He was so cute it didn't take me long to fall in love:)

Healing is a good thing. I hate to hear you have to continue wearing the boot though. Hopefully you will have it off before you head this way. :hearter:

Oh girl, I will be a nut case if it is not off by the time I come your way. I am already counting the days.
