When we first brought Smokey home he was getting diaherria in his crate because he was so nervous and scared that we were going to leave him like all the others did. He was 7.6 lbs when we brought him home and he is a big boy. He weighed less than Chip who is a whole lot smaller. We stopped putting him in a crate for the past 6-7 months and he gained weight (is now 13 lbs). We just recently started putting him in the crate with Chip. In the past 3 weeks that they have been back in the crate, Smokey has had only one accident in the crate and even runs in the crate when I tell him to. All I have to say is "in" and they both go right in the crate. I don't even have to close the door right away. He just lays down and waits for him treat. I think he finally trusts us and knows that we aren't going to leave him.

I am so glad Smokey is adjusting well. Makes you feel good when you know they trust you to love them and take care of them.

I've never owned a rescue before so this experience is amazing. :-)

That's great news about Smokey! Yep, went through the same thing with kallie. Crated her and we always came home to a mess "in" the crate which of course when we came home, she got excited would step in it............well, that is all history and we have the crate stored in the closet now. Nothing better than the feeling that you have won their trust and love.
Good boy Smokey...............Chip too!!!!
