Well yesterday we learned some new hand commands and practiced some of the previous week's hand signals as well. Toby really surprises me sometimes. We did a little socialization at the end of the class and Toby was not the least bit interested in being social. He didn't go at any of them but he did growl and had that "LOOK" that he would like a bite out of a couple of them.

She had us down them (four dogs at a time) and then we walked about 40 feet away from them and Toby stayed put, didn't even budge a muscle.

The only problem I am having with the hand commands is the one that he is in a down position and I am at the end of the leash facing him. I am suppose to tell him to sit and give the hand command for him to move into the sit position from the down postion..........and well, he is just not getting it but then neither are any of the other dogs!!!:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2:

Anyone have any experience with this that could give me some ideas?????

Carol, I sure hope you got that figured out by now as yorkie terriers sure are stubborn & it's Master Toby with a capital "M" you are dealing with. I know this is an older post but I like to play catch up on some of the things that I may have missed before becoming a member. Can we get an update on this one.. or was this a lost cause? :lol2::lol2::lol2:

Oh Master Toby finally got the idea and moves into the sit position without a problem. Just being persistant and patient but firm helped a lot. Practice, practice and practice also is the key to teaching them commands/tricks.

I would have continued with his training and moved on to agility but it is an outside course and believe me in this heat and his full coat, I think we both would have had a melt down. Plus the grounds are pretty much "dirt" and with the morning dew, it was a disaster!!! UGH!
