Okay Miss Morkie... you and your persistance win this time. :)
This is Landon. He is a 2-1/2 year old Blue Great Dane. I got him from a home where they show their danes. I saw his dad and his sister when I went to get him. Unfortunately, I don't think he was treated quite the same way as the other dogs. They couldn't continue to show Landon (his new name) because he was not "perfect" enough for the show ring.
Well, he was at least 15 lbs. underweight - his ribs and backbone were sticking out. He had huge callouses on his front elbows from lying on a hard surface. His hair and skin were in awful shape. He had been eating a cheap, bad (in my opinion) food.
Now he is still gaining the much needed weight, (he is about 145 lbs now) his callouses are getting better with ointment and soft places to lay, his skin is almost to the point it should be and his coat shines.:) The diet and supplement he is on is really bringing him around.
He is very timid around men - almost to the point of fear. If they sit down he will come to them to be pet but he is afraid to walk all the way around the place where the man is sitting. My sons and my brother are helping him to get used to men. A male volunteer at his obedience class is helping too.
He is a big couch potato and gentle and loving. He tries to sit on my lap.:lol2::lol2: He will bark to protect the little dogs if he suspects anyone may be hurting them. Silly dog.
I had him neutered and had to get his vaccines done again (except for rabies) cause his owner didn't have a record of them. I guess she gave them all herself.
At the humane society where his classes are, they said they hadn't seen a Dane with such a nice coat and good skin.:D That made me feel good.
He knows how to walk/heel on a leash and that was it when I got him. I taught him to sit. (danes don't like to sit very much - it's not very comfy for them) We're working on other things now that he is in classes.
He is my baby boy... the only male dog I have.

ROFL. You are too funny. When he saw Landon he asked what it was.:lol2::lol2::lol2::lol2: So, I patiently told him it was a DOG. :D Then he asked what kind of dog. :lol2: I thought everyone in America knew what a Great Dane looked liked. Good grief.
All the dogs get along with him just fine. I wouldn't leave them alone in the same room though. When Landon plays - the little ones take cover.:) Today while I was bathing Jolie, Landon was lying on the floor and Kaya was lying by him licking his nose. He kept trying to move his head so he could sleep.
I have found someone that lives close to me who shows Danes. She has one she doesn't show and a Mastiff rescue and she said Landon could come over and play with them. I guess they have a huge fenced yard. So, Landon will have playdates now.
Yes Carol, I have always wanted one but never thought I would be able to. Now that my kids are gone I figure, why not? We never know how long we will live and I want to enjoy myself. I seem to like very little dogs and very big dogs... not so much the medium size. :)
I drove about 4 hours one way to get him. About half the way there, there was a blizzard. Where they live it snowed 20" that day.
A funny thing is that when we went to get Kaya we drove to state of Virginia. When I got Landon, I had to drive to Virginia, MN. How weird is that?

One day I want to own a Great Dane and a Greyhound. :-)

A greyhound was my first choice, but I was told it can be a problem having a small dog with a greyhound. They are trained to race with a small animal hanging from that thingy ahead of them. A lot times, they don't get over chasing and killing small animals - small dogs included.:( I can really angry how "racing" animals are treated.
I actually found that out when I was applying to foster greyhounds. Then I had to check that one off my list. They are wonderful animals though.
I was thinking about a dane and one day was talking to my dr's nurse. She told me she has a malignant brain tumor. She also has MS. She is always ready to smile and make jokes and make the best of things.
She told me get the dog. :D She said that we never know how much time we have here and to do the things we want to. (within reason, of course.) It's like, in the great big scope of things, how can it be such a big thing to get a dog?
Ok, I'm done now. :)

Landon is so handsome. I love his color. Very nice.
Tell me about your African grey icon. Is that your only bird? How do the pups get along with the bird? We have a lesser citron crested cockatoo.

She will never get the feathers back on her legs or her belly from years of plucking (her previous life was mainly in a basement), but she is beautiful to us.
Her name is Peanut.
This is what her wings looked like when we first got her. She couldn't fly

Her name is Cleopatra. Cleo for short. She is 8-1/2 years old and we've had her since she was a baby. She is hiliarious. She says so many things. She keeps me laughing. She won't talk much when people come over unless she is used to them but then, watch out.
There are two cockatiels in the house too. I used to do fostering for a bird rescue and at that time we had 10 birds in the house. It was pretty loud at times.:)
I keep the dogs away from Cleo when I have her out. There are a couple of dogs that don't pay her much attention, but others that would love to chase her. We had a lesser cockatoo too. He was so funny. He could reach the light switch for the dining room light and he would turn it off and on. We would be in the middle of dinner and the lights would go off. Then he would laugh.
Birds are such characters... never a dull moment. :D
How old is your cockatoo?

What a sweetheart. :hearter::hearter: Some days I still really miss Max. He was such a lover but such a trouble maker too. :D
I would like to take the people who abuse animals and do the same things to them that they did to the animals. I get so darn mad. I'm glad peanut has you now. How long have you had her and how did you come about finding her?

"Yellow topper?" 10561 Ummm, it's called a crest. A topper is something you put on the bed of a pickup. :lol2::lol2: 10559 10560
Your Brandy wouldn't be a poof if she had short hair. She would probably look even prettier.

Thanks guys
Peanut is 24 and she has been ours for 5 years. She used to belong to my in-laws. They have always had alot of animals and I don't think they knew what they were in for with Miss Peanut here. She can scream like the dickens and she bit someone in the house and off to the basement she was sent. These guys are so smart and social and need more than 5 minutes a day. SO, Marco asked his mom if we could take her. She now has her own room with a big window and her cage is much bigger than the one she had when we got her. Marco had to assemble it in her room.
The CUTEST thing she ever did was when Zoe was a pup, we could keep her in the master bath and she would whine and cry and Peanut would blow her kisses and sing to her.
Peanut remembers Marco and he is definitely her owner, but I have made big progress over time. My allergist says the dust isn't good for me, but I don't clean the cage and I wash my hands after playing with her.
I love her crest too, but my favorite thing about her is her eyes. And I swear it looks like she is smiling all the time.

African Grays can live up to 50 years in captivity.
I believe it is about the same for cockatoos.
