Ok this is disgusting........Brandy is starting to eat her poop again! She was doing it when we first adopted her and so I figured it was just one of those issues you deal with that needed corrected that comes with rescuing. She had stopped but NOW all of a sudden she is doing it again.

I've been told that adding some pineapple to her food will deter her so I am going to try that first. BUT if anyone else has a suggestion, please post it! I am getting desperate! YUCKY!!!

Solid Gold makes a product called SEP. Stop Eating Poop. You can get it at most pet stores and online.

Or you can try Deter - I've heard mixed reviews on that - it works with some and not with others.

The only thing that stopped Kaya from doing it was switching diets. :)

I tried the pineapple too. It wouldn't hurt to try it - it works for some. I've also heard to put pepper or red pepper on the poop and then they don't want it.

Settle down.... :D, lots of dogs do it. :)

When my puppy did that way back when, I just made sure to pick up the poop after she went potty. Of course that would really only work if your puppy was only allowed outside supervised, but if you just let her go out whenever then pineapple might do the trick. I have heard of something else you can give them too but I cant think of what that is, but if I do Ill let you know.

changing the food might be a good idea, but im not sure, i bet your vet would be able to give you some good advice, they might even sell stuff at pet stores for this issue.

My roommates dog, before his neuter, would drink pee, it was so gross and he would foam at the mouth, no kisses from Charlie!

Brandy actually went in the house on a rug and then when I looked down at her (I was cooking in the kitchen) she had a piece of yummy poop stuck to her beard.

So I took her and washed her up........she has been sooooooo good about going outside, this is the first time in about five months that she went inside and did not come to tell me so what is up with that????? Then to eat it.........oh so gross!!!

Well, I will do the pineapple first and then maybe the SEP.

And, Emma, if you can remember what other product is helpful in this yucky behavior, P L E A S E .......LET ME KNOW!

LOL KidZ will be KidZ - Carol - I too heard that pineapple may help to stop it. On a TV show I was watching they used fresh pineapple - I wonder if canned would not do the trick like fresh?? Maybe giving her doggie vitamins will help - sometimes they said they are lacking in vitamins or do you know if she ever had puppies - Mom dogs would eat their pups poop so that other creatures wouldn't get the scent of the poop and attack, etc.

If she hasn't pooped in the house for long time, maybe she just couldn't hold it anymore and then she was trying to get rid of it before you saw. Dogs have been known to do that.

Tell her next time to wash her face before you see.:lol2:

Canned pineapple works - as far as I've heard.

With kibble food, they do not digest all the stuff in it so lots of times the dogs smell the "leftovers" and eat it. Same reason they eat rabbit poo.

Pineapple really works. Just add about a teaspoon and it should do the trick!

I give the kelp which has tons of vitamins in it with their breakfast. I don't know if she had puppies or not. She came to us with no background information except that she had been dropped off at an outside dog pound cage during the night; the rescue's vet did an exploratory surgery on her to make sure she was spayed...........but nothing else.

I am thinking that maybe she has eaten the poop before when we were gone and we just thought that they were all being good little doggies. So perhaps it is since I have added the Nature's Variety to the diet. Well, I will try the pineapple (canned because I have some in my pantry) and see if that helps.

It is just distressing! YUCK.........Thanks for your input!

Well, I have noticed that there has been some of the "canned" ingredients in their poop when I pick it up from the yard. So maybe that is it!!! I will try the pineapple.

Thanks Ashely, I will be giving it a try! Do I have to give it every feeding????

No. You have to feed pineapple to her the rest of her earthly life. :lol2::lol2::lol2:

Sorry, couldn't resist. :) You just have to use it as long as you think it necessary. Till she stops eating poop/breaks the habit. Now, are you sure it is her OWN poop she's eating? I would put pineapple in all three of your babies food just in case.

I used the canned pineapple for Scrappy when he was a puppy and about once or twice a week I give them each a couple of pieces as a treat. I am not sure if Pebbles has ever been tempted as I have always given her some pineapple.

It is supposed to be the undigested food/kibble that tempts them back.

Well, I only recently added the wet canned dog food to their diet.........they had all tried it before but once I scolded them I have have not had a problem. I guess I should go back to the chicken to their diet instead of the canned food and see if it gets better or just slip in the pineapple first and see how that works. :)

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR INPUT!!!

Heya Carol,

I have also been told that a Fig Newton per day works. We had good results with Deter when I had Bella Mia.

GOOD luck!
Melanie

BRANDY you are too pretty to do this to your parents... be a good girl

Thanks Melanie, I will certainly pass on your words to Brandy! :).........think I might just go and get the Deter and skip the pineapple in case she won't eat it. I assume the Deter is liquid.

The Deter I used was in chewable pill form, it must have been very tasty since Bella Mia LOVED them.

GOOD luck!

I'm sorry Carol, I'm no help there since LB has been known to nibble on hers once in a blue moon if I don't catch her fast enough. I brush her teeth everyday, but when I catch her she gets extra brushing since she loves to give kisses.

But, I totally understand what you are going through. I did the pineapple thing but it didn't work.

Good luck...

I haven't tried this but I have heard that it works...sprinkling Al's Meat Tenderizer on their food...I guess has a really bad odor or something on their poop. The gal that watches Molly has a Brussels Griffen (sp?) and she swears by it.
