I bought some Magic Coat for white coats and it stinks. I mean it really stinks. It works ok but I can't stand the smell. I would have put conditioner on afterwards anyways but I put a lot on to try to cover the smell. I didn't need to worry it rinsed out with the shampoo but I won't buy another bottle. I hate to use it but I hate to waste money even more.
What kinds of shampoo does everyone on here use? Sylvia

I use PearLyt shampoo. I get it from the vet. It's soap-free, conditioning formulation with oatmeal and brightening agents. It's from DVM Pharmaceuticals, Inc. out of Miami, Fl 33137.
I used this for 12 years with our 1st maltie and it makes Jack's coat really white.

I've used the Petsilk and like their leave in conditioner.........also have tried several other brands, including human hair products. Yorkies and maltese definitely have different types of coats and so what works for the one - is not working for the other. I've used Coat Handler and it is a fine product as well but I will most likely go back to Petsilk products when I use up my stash of other products.

The CC products for white coats, do you suppose it would make any difference on Yorkie coats? Or any brand of white coat shampoo? Sylvia

Your only supposed to use a whitner on a maltese coat every month or two. It's not good to use to much it can damage their coat. Regular shampoo will keep the coat white. :D

Ok, learned something new already! LOL I thot it should be used every bath.
The breeder uses Dawn dishsoap. What does everyone think of that? Sylvia

 I dont know about Dawn dishsoap, I mean I wouldn't use it. You can also use baby shampoo , I realize some people may not be able to afford the shampoo, but I wouldnt use dishsoap..

On the Yorkie sites they use Dawn to kill fleas. It might be why she uses it. But then again her female had her coat cut off and the male had some terrible matts in his hair. Maybe that was partially caused by the damage caused by the detergent in the dishsoap. Sylvia

I would think so, it also can be from not brushing the coat. You need to brush the coat everyday.
Or at least every other day.

I'm using Oster show white vanilla shmapoo + Oster strawberry dermasilk dog conditioner, later on I use Bio Groom's Vita oil. I have tried these products just once untill now, but they seem to be good for my dog.

If that's the dog you are talking about in your avatar, you must be doing something right. He/she is beautiful. What were you using? Sylvia
In a pinch I used my Ojon Shampoo/Conditioner...it seems to prevent Babe's fur getting soiled. Also, w/ each brushing it helps (or the grooming) to generate natural oils. Also, Babe had no problem w/it...no dryness or reaction to it. And he still is very white. When he arrived he was gray w/ filthy hair. Ojon on humans keeps our hair cleaner--less washing each week. And the hair is silky. QVC has it.

I haven't bought it in a while, but I don't think it was more than $10-$15. I always got it from my vet, but you could try on line and see. It lasts a long time. Jack gets a bath every 10 days and goes to the groomer every 5 weeks. Hope that helps.

I use CC's white on white once every 6 weeks and the Day to Day shampoo/conditioner every week. I love their Ice on Ice. For her face I use puppy shampoo so it doesn't irritate her eyes.

Yes, this is my dog on the avatar. I's a boy btw. :) I don't shower him very often, he has really good hair by nature. I tried the Oster stuff just once and I'm satisfied with the result so far.

Thank you for the info. Babe (a male) 8 mos. old is a puppy left for me to raise. So I'm new to all of this.
I'm finding that daily grooming is helping. I have to wait until I get him to sleep or he wants to fight or simply play. I feel sorry for him because he was an abused puppy. So I'm working w/ him to de-program him...he's doing well...very well. I do feel sometimes working w/ an alligator would be easier. He likes fingers, and his teeth are like little razors. But he is a puppy. A very bright puppy. I just want to make him happy and give him the love/care he never had.
Your dog is beautiful! Stunning in fact!
Again, Thank You. Any advice is very helpful for me...you all are very kind people. It's been a very long time since I raised a puppy.

Hey M101,
I had exactly the same worries like you before I got my puppy. I was so nervous and wondering if he'll love me as much as I do. But as I have him now, I can tell you one thing: Our dogs *feel* what we feel for them. They seem to have a sixth sense for it.
One more thing about grooming. If you'd use the Bio Groom Vita oil, mix it with water in a pump up spray bottle and spray on him before brushing. That makes the hair more smooth and easy to comb.

Where can I get the Bio Groom Vita Oil? My husband gave Angel a bath last night and didn't brush her. I got the tangles out today but she wasn't happy with me. Hubby was only supposed to wash the poo out of her tail feathers. Also, does that leave their coats a little oily and needing to be washed sooner?
Ben had a fit when I tried to brush him, he seems to have sensitive skin. Sylvia

Hi, have you ever tried vellus, purepaws or laser lites lines? I saw that many dog champions use these lines. What do you think about CC white on white? Is it worthy to try? I need to know your opinion. Edward

Hi Edward and welcome to MT:welcome:
CC white on white is great to use, but you know not to use it ALOT, right?
I would use it maybe every 2 to 3 months as it drys the coat if used often. I have never used a whitener on Nemo. Maybe if I had to I would but not often

Sorry, I've not used any of those products..........could you post a link to the site and we will take a peek???? I use coat handler a lot and use to use Petsilk but a member said they have changed their ingredients so I most likely will stick with my coat handler and Bless the Beast by Bo Derek! Those are my two favorites. I heard a lot of good things about Plush Puppy but have not tried it...............YET!:D :D

Thank you Morkie4. Here are the sites of vellus : www.vellus.com , pure paws: http://www.purepaws.net/ and laser lites : http://www.laserlitesusa.com/LASERLITESUSA/
I heard about laser lites from yorkietalk and someone said that a breeder and a handler who used to wrap their yorkies after she uses laser lites lines, she doesn't wrap her yorkies anymore (this person shows her dogs in the dog show in usa). That's why I would like to know if anyone has ever used this shampoo. It will be great if we don't need to wrap our maltese anymore in order to avoid the hair breakage. Well anyone's opinion will be welcomed.

I went to a dog show yesterday and there were Laser Lites products. I heard it from YT forum that a breeder who used this line didn't wrap his dogs anymore. I have made my research on this line. I have a chance to find this line from the dog show. Today I bathed Hanzo (my maltese) with Laser Lites stripping shampoo (a clarifying shampoo) and then I shampooed him with Lanolin shampoo and then I used Protein conditioner and add silk laser lites in it. I must say it made my job easier today coz the brush glided through Hanzo's hair so easily. All his matts goes away. If anyone who wants to know more about the result, I'll be happy to report you. This is my first time using this line, so I don't know yet the result in the futre. So far, Hanzo's hair becomes more white, shiny and softer. So I will keep you up-to-date if you want.
Laser Lites is a high quality product. IF you want to have a look at their products you can consult it through these sites

Today I bathed Kenzo my yorkie with Laser Lites products too. I notice there are some improvement in his hair. Kenzo and Hanzo hair is so soft and for some reasons I notice that Hanzo my maltese hair becomes more shiny and whiter and look so clean but I am still waiting for the result in the future. Hope the result will improve even better.
