I need help figuring this out. 4 of my dogs are very itchy - mostly in the ear/facial area. Two of them have been to the vet recently and the vet found nothing wrong. No fleas, no ear mites, no bites. Their ears are clean - no debris at all.
Their diets haven't changed. I thought of allergies, but 4 dogs all at once, all of a sudden having allergies?
I have been looking at natural products to help with skin itching, etc... Has anyone used anything that actually helped? The dogs must be miserable and it drives me bonkers, too.
The vet was actually not all that helpful. I wasn't all that thrilled. Usually the vets at our clinic are better.
Any ideas anyone?????

Have the 4 dogs been in any area in your neighborhood which might have some chemicals on it? I haven't had to try anything special on Jack so far. Do you get the Doctors Foster and Smith book in the mail? I just got the 25th anniversary sale book. Check it out at www.DrsFosterSmith.com or call 1-800-826-7206 and ask for a book to be sent to you.
Good luck.

Anything in your yard like little no seeums or some sort of biting bug nest that they all might have stumbled upon???? Weird that all four would be affected.:confused:

Tell me about no seeums? I have heard of them but have never seen them. :lol2: :lol2:
If some type of bug were/had been biting them, wouldn't it be on their torsos as well? They only scratch on their heads.
I saw some itch/allergy procucts and some of them say to avoid mouth, nose and eye area. Well, that kind of elimates facial use, doesn't it? :(
Rather frustrated here.

I know what you mean! Pixie has the exact same problem, but she's going to the vet tomorrow so hopefully we'll figure out what it is.

Could it just be an eye irritation with pollen or something in the air???? I know my girls' eyes have been a little more irritated lately but I just wash them out with the collodial silver and it clears up. Maybe it just looks like they are itching their heads but it is their eyes??? Just don't know what it could be. But whatever it is, don't send it my way!:p
Hope you find out what it is and they get to feeling better soon!

Is the skin pink all in that area? It could be an allergen that is affecting all of them..
Did the vet check their eyes? Maybe the problem is around the eyes...
How about yeast? Did they check for yeast infection? They may benefit from the use of probiotics if this is the case...
When Miko had an allergic reaction awhile back, I used oatmeal to bathe him, and it was very soothing for him...I took some oatmeal and food processed it really well..Then, I started a lukewarm bath, not too warm because that can make the itching worse...I added the oats that I food processed and stirred them around in there really well...I poured this water and oats mix over him for about 10-15 minutes, and it helped stop the itching big time. It was very soothing...

The vet really didn't check for anything. She looked in their ears and at their skin. Their eyes look just fine.
I am ready to try just about anything. I do have some oatmeal shampoo I could try. I am going to bathe them and not use the shampoos/conditioners that I have been using to see if that makes a difference.
The probiotics would help? I thought that was for digestive help - no?
Thanks for the suggestions! :)
