Ok, Friday we started to switch Jasper's food from Science Diet to Natural Balance Duck and Potato. He still won't eat it. If it is in his bowl he will pick it out and leave it on the floor. If that is all that is in his bowl, he won't eat. I have also gave it to my other 2 dogs. One will eat it and the other won't. So now I need to find something else before he runs out of SD. Should I try another flavor of Natural Balance or try a different food?
The other foods that I was considering are:
Wellness
Canidae
Royal Canine
Innova
Natures Variety
Merrick
Nutro (Vet said NO to this one)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I have both Petco and Petsmart near me but the only two I found from the list was NB and Wellness.
Thanks

I have to switch Paisley too. She got diarrhea from the Royal canin puppy food. The vet put her on canned prescrition ID which she did great on, but I have to switch her back to something else now that her belly is better. PS I sent the barrettes today. I am dying to see a pic of Jasper in them whe you get them!

Which food are you leaning towards? I want something that reduces the amount and smell of the pooh. I have a new name for Jasper and it's not polite to repeat.:)

The breeder recommended the Royal canin and it did not smell too bad on the back end, she just couldn't tolerate it all of a sudden. I think for adults they make different food by breed. I may have to keep Ms P on a sensitive stomach food. She loves the prescription ID, but it is expensive through the vet $2.20 a can! And its going up. Plus its not for puppies per say. I don't know what to try next. Something with rice. I may stick with science diet. My yorkie ate it and lived to 16 1/2.

Those are all good foods except for Nutro. I wouldn't feed Nutro if I had a free lifetime supply of it...Too many dogs getting sick from it.
If you go to their individual website, you can look at where they sell those foods in your area. Most of the foods, you can't find at Petco, you have to go to specialty stores.
Merrick's is usually pretty tasty for them. My Emma used to eat Grammy's Pot Pie before I started homecooking for her.
Nature's Variety has some really good reviews. Lots of people like Wellness and Canidae...
Innova is a favorite with a lot of people as well...
I guess it's just up to your baby...Maybe you can get some samples from each of the companies. Send them emails and find out if you can get samples. I know Merrick sells a sample pack that you can try for your baby.

Our dogs do well on honest kitchen and raw food. Honest kitchen you'd have to order it because its pretty hard to find.

Well, mine will eat the Duck and Potato if they get hungry enough without the added canned Natural Balance. But if I just put one teaspoon of the canned Natural Balance in with the kibbles and mix it really well and they gobble it down. I also started adding the New Zealand Nature's Variety to the kibble. and they seem to like it as well. So they get a little NB, a little NV and 1 tsp. of Natural Balance canned. It seems to work out ok and it keeps their poo firm but I don't think any food will get rid of the smell of poo completely.......but this combination seems to be helping with the smell and the number of times they go (once or twice a day).
try not to change his food yet. give him a couple of days. deuci is a picky eatter, and if he doesnt want kibble he will go hungry and skip a meal. but the next day he will eat it since he knows he wont get anything different.
sometimes i know this is so bad and i can get sick but this was the only way i got deuci to eat after his patella surgery. i had to bite the kibble in half and handfeed him some. he would not eat it if i cut the kibbles. i guess he thinks whatever goes into mommys mouth must be really good:confused:

I did add a little of the mighty dog canned food that he loves and he would eat that off and spit out the kibbles. I put it in my other dogs bowl and Jasper likes to go there and eat out of theirs sometimes and he would do the same, eat the other and drop the NB on the floor. I didn't know if it was just that flavor or the brand that he does not like. Missy will NOT eat it and she eats everything, Lola eats it everytime I put it out so she has gotten fat because she LOVES it.

Sounds like you are really in a difficult situation.......just like having skinkids!! One likes it and the others don't!!! ROFLOL.........Kallie will sometimes lick the canned off the kibble and then drop the kibble but then she goes back when the bowl is empty and picks it off the floor and eats because she knows if the she don't, the other two will!!!! Hope you find what works best for all three rather than having to feed them all different foods! That would be a bummer.

Simon wouldn't eat the Wellness dry - but loves the wellness wet. I started giving him Halo's salmon flavor and he eats it up. This may sound dumb - try giving his food just a little on a flat dish if you change his food. Just put a little on it at first. Try giving Jasper the new food at a different time then his normal feedings.

Ok, it has been 10 days since we tried switching Jasper food to NB. He still refuses to eat it. I have put canned dog food on it, yogurt, and have put it out at different times and also put it out fby itself for 1-1/2 days. He did not eat. I can't let him go to long without food seeing that he is so little. What now?:confused::confused:
Should I now try a different food? I'm almost afraid to try a different flavor of NB seeing that him and Missy both will NOT eat it. I am leaning toward Wellness or Innova. Which one do you think he will take better? And is there a particular flavor that I should try first?

Well, I guess since you have Wellness at your nearest pet store, I would try that first.
I've heard lots of good things about it and am thinking about switching Pixie to it...I've heard NB doesn't have quite enough protein in it.
I hope you find a good one soon!

if he goes too long w/o eating, he must. My breeder said when they don't eat try baby food turkey sticks. at a minimum, you must give him nutrical vities so he doesn't shock.

He will eat, just not the new food that we are trying to switch him to.

If none of them will eat it and you still have quite a bit left in the bag, take it back to the store..........most of the time they will take back the unused portion and give you a store credit or cash (depends on the store). But the manufacturer usually guarantees that your dog will love the product and they offer you the opportunity to return it to the store for a refund. I'd give it a try. If that's not something you want to do, then donate it to the local pound or ASPCA.

Today, I went to the feed store near my house and I found some of the brands on my list. I have decided to try Canidae because I have 3 dogs to feed and it was a little cheaper.
JASPER ATE IT!!!! :D:D And not just him but ALL of the dogs did also. I will let you know how it goes later if they still like it or not.

Try the Wellness dry. Petco is now carrying Wellness products. Also at Petco they carry Halo foods - try the Halo Salmon flavor. This is the one that Simon eats up.
Here is the link for Halo - you can also purchase a sample bag to try.http://www.halopets.com/
