Hi Everyone,
Thank you for the warm welcome!
Although I'm new to the forum. I've been "stalking" for a couple of days and finally decided to chime in. I am the mother to two Maltese, Emma and Meckie. They are the sweetest things ever. If they were members of the Royal family, Emma would be Fergie; Meckie is most definitely the Queen.
Although Emma, age 10, is the younger of the two, she came to live with me first. My Yorkie of 15 years had died, I was distraught and "had" to have a new puppy right away. Mind you, I'm not a child. I'm an educated professional who knows the right and wrong way to do things. I had done my homework. Nevertheless, when the time came, I couldn't wait. I woke up one Saturday morning and said, "I live in New York City. I should be able to have a puppy by the end of the weekend." I ended up on the subway to what I thought was a breeder in Brooklyn and fell in love with Emma. I was looking for a smaller Maltese. I was told she was 16 weeks old and 2.5 lbs. Based on that I assumed she would end up around 5lbs. I paid a premium because she was"so tiny." Bottom Line: I took her to the Vet and he went crazy. She wasn't 16 weeks old -- more like 10 weeks old -- and she is now well ovet 10lbs. More to love!!! I just thank God she's healthy. I gather others who have gotten dogs from the people haven't been as lucky. Yet, I resented being lied to and paying a premium for something I didn't get.
Meckie, age 12, came a couple of months later. I got a call from one of the breeders saying that they knew a terminally ill couple in Toronto who needed to re-home a 2.5lb, 2 year old, little girl. I said yes immediately and flew to Toronto to pick her up.
Now, I'm thinking about adding a third fur baby to the family. Times have changed. With the advent of the Interenet finding a reputable breeder behind those stunning internet sites is difficult. I was hoping to get some guidance here and already have.
I look forward to getting to know all of you.
