I'm sorry if this is a double post, I posted it on the wrong section:
Came back from the visit with the vet who is doing her surgery next week. We talked about her xrays, he manipulated her knee joints and even had her walking in a circle so he can see her gait.
Well, he says that he thinks her right knee is just as bad as her left. He also thinks that her surgery could wait a year because she has another year to grow and she's still developing. He knows about her symptoms and feels that we should continue monitoring her for the next 6 months. If her knee continues to lock without the patella popping back into place then we could reconsider her surgery, her knee locks but when she relaxes it pops back into place, I've even learned how to manipulate it back into place. Now, Dr. Johnson is a no nonsense fella, if he feels she needs the surgery now he would push for it on the other hand, if she could wait then she should.
I'm going to keep the Feb. 4th date just in case it gets worse.
What are your thoughts? I value any and all opinions.

:) Oh Laurie,
I think that is great news!!! Nemos didn't pop back in at all:( and I am praying his right leg will never need it, oh lord im praying for that!
What a great Vet:D He told you the truth , he could have easily just did the surgery and took your money!!
They charged me 1700 and then after gave me 200 back, I don't know why. SO the operation was 1500..
I know N.Y. is really expensive, I dont know about Cali.
I am so happy this looks good for LB..
I wish you so much luck Laurie..

Laurie, that is terrific news! LB may need the surgery down the road but if it is popping back in place at the moment and you know how to do it when it goes out.....I'd wait. Sounds like the Vet is one that uses caution and concern so I'd go with what he said and monitor her for the next six months. He also made a very good point regarding her still growing. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the problem did not get worse and need surgery just by a continuing to grow in that area?!!!! We will think positive!!! Kallie is 4 1/2 and she has the popping but no visible problems........she runs like the wind! And jumps too! So sometimes they get to a grade of luxating patella but never need the surgery. Hang in there!

Laurie, if she does not need it just now then i would wait!
Like the vet said, if she still has a little growing to do & she is not in any real pain then i would take his advice. Keep monitoing her like he said & if in six months time she needs it then go for it then!
Let us know what you decide;) & give hugs to LB :bighug:

:hearts6: :hearts6: Ladies, thank you so much for your support, I just love you gals!:grouphug: :grouphug: I must say that I was suprised about this news, but it sort of a relief. Dr. Johnson was great. He showed us a model of the leg with the patella and gave us the physiology and etiology of luxating patella and explained the different treatments for surgery. He felt if he did it now with her still growing that the possibility of another surgery is great.
Andrea, you are right. He could have just taken the money but he told me that if there are other things we could have used the money for that the surgery could wait. Not that money is an option, he was the one that brought it up. I never brought up the money. He would have charged me about $800 total.
Elaine and Carol, the only time she hurts is when her patella acts up, when she relaxes her patella pops back into place and she's back to her regular self. As if nothing happened. I will continue to monitor her closely for the next six months.
Jadey, I'm a wuss too but he taught me how to do it and I now feel comfortable doing it.
But I wanted to thank you for all your support and concern:smlove2: :smlove2: . I really treasure all of you as not only internet friends, but as friends:smlove2: :smlove2: .
Have a good day!

Thats what happened to Sammy Maree, she was still growing at the time of her first operation and now needs a second. I don't have to pay for her right leg to be reoperated on as my Orthopedic feels as rare as what it is, yes it would have been better for Sammy Maree to be over 12mths.
Sammy is due to go in and get her right leg redone and her left leg done, she is due to go in Feb, but now my vet is thinking that it maybe better to hold off until it cools down a little, it is so hot here ( summer) and Sammy would be so uncomfortable, so we are just watching her and shall see what the Orthopedic wants to do, he may say do it now anyway ( I am hoping he will wait till May when it is much cooler).
That is wonderful news of LB, I will pray that as she grows her Patella won't get worse and won't need the operation. All the best
