How many of you are using Chicken Soup for your malt? Anyone notice any difference in staining? I have heard good things about it but haven't tried it.

I've been using Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul, and although I like all the ingredients, I haven't noticed a big difference with his tear staining. What's most important to me, is that he is able to tolerate this kind of food. I haven't had a single problem with him having an upset tummy. Also, the pieces are small and manageable. I just make sure to bathe him often to keep his tearstains under control.

How many of you feel as though your malt has a sensitive tummy? Bentley does..Mia (my yorkie) doesn't.

Tuffy definitely has a sensitive stomach. Any kind of new treat can make his tummy act up. I really have to watch what I give him. I noticed that when I was feeding him Flint River he was always having soft stool but now that I've switched him to Nutro he's been doing great. I think the Flint River was just too rich for him. He does puke every once in a while and after a few visits to the vet I think the problem is just a sensitive tummy.

As for tear stains, his come and go and the food that he eats doesn't seem to be the root of the problem.

We definately saw a difference. Lexi is my mom's female maltese. She had to stay with me for a few months. I started her on Chicken Soup like my other dogs. After a few days I noticed her face was completely dry, unlike before as she was always soaking wet. After two weeks, I used Polident to remove the old stains and new ones never appeared. She had very bad stains. The food was definately the cause in my dogs. Although they do still get a little if they get an ear infection or something.

the second picture is before food change, first picture is a couple weeks after.

Jodi, tell me about Polident? Walk me thru how you use it..how do apply it?

I've only done it on her that time after reading it on SM. I just dissolved some polident, made it kinda thick. Wiped it on with a cotton ball, then wiped it again a few minutes later to kinda of dry it a little then I let her go about her business. It lightened as the day went on. I bathed her a day or so later, when it was all washed out, it was kinda of neon yellow. I applied it again a day or so later and it was basically gone, she still looked like her muzzle was a little bit dingey. Here is the picture of her right after her bath that first time. You can still see the stains but they are tremendously lighter. They were a dark brown.

They are tablets that come in a box. LOL! I had no idea what they were either!!
My husband found the box in the cupboard and gave me this very odd look. Why do we have these? I was embarassed to tell him I put it on the dog's face! :o

I've been tempted to try the Polident but I'm a wuss about using anything close to their eyes. I've also been tempted by the Angel's Glow they've been talking about on SM but since it's an antibiotic I'm scared by that too. At least Tuffy's stains are horrible.

I feel the same way that you do about the antibiotics. Frankly tear stains are not all that big of a deal to me. If they are really bad I can see the concern, but just a slight bit isn't worth the effort to me. Although it was definately nice to see Lexi's face for the first time when the stains were gone.
