I have seen this video before and what it is saying is that because of the pressure to have the "perfect breed" through the years they have changed the look of different breeds regardless if it is detrimental to the breed. Case in point - the pug - the original pug didn't have the scrunched up nose. Someone decided that they should so the breed them until they reach the standards they have now which makes it difficult for them to breath. There is much inbreeding now that the dogs are being breed even if there is a problem in the lines. They breed for the look and don't take into consideration the health of the animal. Take for instance the Rottweiler. They suffer from hip dysplasia so many breeders will breed a champion with a perfect head and body and don't take into consideration that animal may have hip dysplasia and will breed with a bitch that has hip dysplasia in her lines so those lines continue and the health issues are passed down to the pups. So they can keep their lines and standards.

Well, I clicked on each one of the videos and got the same message each time: "We're sorry this video is no longer available."

Lynne and anyone else that tried to look I am sorry that the video's did not post. Go to http://www.youtube.com and in the search bar type in {Pedigree Dogs Exposed}. There is a series of six video's about 10 min long for each one to watch. I just checked and they are still working. I do not know why the links did not work. All buy maybe they have inscripting disabled.
Maggie that was a wonderful explination. Thank you for taking the time to explain.

Good summary. That is what I am thinking all along. But go tell that to the Maltese Police. You would think that with all the people who came up lately with problems with their dog they got from so called "reputable breeders" they would get a wake up call. But no, they put their head in the sand. And try to find excuses for those breeders. I would be darn mad if I paid over 1500$ for a pet that has health problems in his early years. When you lessen to them you would think that all the dogs that don't come from show breeders have a health hazard. I am sorry but the hazard is the same for both of them, only the price is different.

Good explanation. So, that means that a longggggggggggggg time ago, there was probably cute little black or brown or multicolored Maltese, but someone decided that white was the way to go and bred all the other colors out. That makes me so sad.:(

Yes Cheryl that's what happened. Years and years ago there were Maltese with multiple colors but white was preferred and so they bred out the other colors.
