HI JONI AND WELCOME TO MALTESETALK!!!!
Well, it didn't take long for any of them. Three were rescues (all over the age of 2) and they were so appreciative to be in a safe place and be showered with love and attention, they were like glue bugs from the start. The Yorkie was a little more hesitant but he was much younger (six months) when we got hIm. Our last rescue was lovey, kissy and a real lap dog right from the get go.
Relaxed??? Well since none of the them were housetrained, I didn't let them relax until they were 100%..........then I let them relax!:lol2::lol2:
Again, Welcome to Maltese Talk!!!

When we first brought Jasper home, it took him a few days to really warm up where he felt comfortable. I kept him in a small area to get used to first and that really seemed to help him.
Emme (10 weeks) just got here last night and she is also still confined to a small area and she is still a little scared but she is playing.
So give it a few days and you will notice a difference.

Welcome to MT!
If it is you only pet the transition should be pretty easy if you have things prepared ahead of time just like bringing home a new baby.;)
But if you are going to introduce a new puppy/dog into your family that already has a dog that will take a little more work.

Welcome To MT!
When I brought Posh home, she settled in pretty quickly. I kept her in an ex pen when I couldn't keep my eye on her and she just loves my other dog Diddy (yorkie).

Jack was a rescue too. He was just so happy to be out of the shelter and he was only 3 1/2 months old! He bonded right away with my oldest son and they are best buds. But of course he loves his mommy and he loves to terrorize his daddy....loves to drive him nuts:lol2:.
Don't worry, after a few days he will start to know you and the family and want to explore.
Congrads, and please let me know the pups (both pups, Charlie's too) birthdate so I can get it on my calendar. I'm the birthday greeter and I'd love to have you join in on the fun.

Chip was a very scared baby when we brought him home. He was 7 1/2 weeks old and very sick. It took him about a week to recoup and a week to really feel better enough to play with us and give us kisses. It also helped that Adam didn't have a job at the time so he took Chippy everywhere with him... those two were inseperable!
Now Smokey was a different story. He was a rescue that we got when he was 6 months old and he had been shifted around to 5 different places. He was very confused. While he was friendly, kissy, and playful, I don't think he fully trusted or felt comfortable with us for months. He still even gets scared when we drop him off at the groomers house and I think he's afraid we're going to leave him there. When we go to pick them up, I have to hold Smokey cause he starts shaking really bad.
