Hi, Okay, I have a male yorkie.........I need help buying clippers to do his ears and paws. I found a website that gives great directions on how to do the ears but my question is which clipper and which blade. I want his ears to stay velvety, some hair on it. I personally do not like the leathery look to the tops of the ears. So can anybody recommend a clipper and/or blade that will do the trick???? I've been doing it with the scissors and he is really quite good at letting me cut the hair down but I think the clippers would be faster and a nice clean look. I've heard or read: Use a #40, some say a #30 and others say a #10 blade! So what do you use or if you take yours to the groomer, could you ask them what balde they use on the ear to make them velvet like! THANKS!!

I've just been using scissors as well. But I have heard the little beard trimmers are nice to use. I have some #10 clippers, but I'm nervous to do it on her ears as I've cut her ear before. But 10 would work pretty good.

I use the #10 blade as well. But I shave the entire ear because Scampers has thick hair that weighs his ears down. That and it gives him a clean look on the ears that looks really nice while still having some hair on his ears.

You wouldn't happen to have a close up pic of Scampers with his ears trimmed, would you? Also what type of clipper did you buy?

Jodi, where did you get the clippers from.........I will definitely go with the #10 blades since that seems to be the one that gives the results I want.

I bought them at petsmart, they were not the cheapest ones but not the most expensive either. Maybe $130

Here is a pic of Scampers I took. Ignore his hair, he just woke up so he has a bed head and his ears are drooping to the side a bit because he was still sleepy, lol. The ears are trimmed up nicely, it is a nice clean trim but the hair you see that is long is the hair from his head that is laying across his ears. As you can see, he still has hair on his ears, I just trimmed them following the shape of his ears.
Hope this helps!!

He looks very handsome like that! Of course it helps to have such a beautiful thick coat! When I got Gizmo his ears were completely shaved but his head is so little and his hair is so thin that it just doesn't look good on him like that as his ears look too big for his head LOL
