The Humane Society led a massive rescue effort to free nearly 1,000 breeding dogs and puppies from from one of the most prolific puppy mills in West Virginia, deceptively named Whispering Oaks Kennel. Hundreds of innocent victims were as young as one day old and some several years old.

They showed pictures on their site of the horrific conditions the dogs were living in, caged in small areas without shade and nothing but wire bottoms to the cages.

On the upside, it was wonderful to see that they were able to rescue all 1,000 of them.

This is at least one more puppy mill that is shut down. Hopefully all of these dogs will be able to find good forever homes.

There is a doggie god up there and he is getting fed up with horrible people who do things to these poor innocent animals. I hope they all find their forever home soon.

Do you know where in WV it was? I live about an hour away from the WV line. Just wondering.

Yay! We got another one shut down! WOOHOO!

When the authorities shut down a puppy mill, what actions do they take to ensure that the puppy mill owner doesn't start a new one?

Oh heavens, 1,000 ?!?!?!?! How can anyone amass that many dogs in one location?

I hope that most, if not all, of those dogs will be available for adoption to forever homes.

God bless those that helped shut this puppymill down.

They should do that more often.

It depends on the state where that puppy mill is, some states will not let the owner operate a kennel in that state ever again once they close one down, but if they do it illegally then there is no stopping it until they get caught and then they face jail time.
