Hello everyone,
I get on this site every once in awhile, but just officially joined today! I love reading everyone's insight on all the various topics discussed here. I am a member of YorkieTalk, but now need advice on maltese.
First of all, I am looking to add a maltese to our family. I can pay up to $1500, but would prefer to stay in the $1000 range. I would like to be able to buy a healthy, sound maltese with a good temperament that will mature to 6lbs or under but still have money set aside for any emergencies or unexpected costs that may come up. As I quickly learned after purchasing my yorkie from whom I thought was a breeder, and I later found that she was a broker for puppymills!! Our yorkie is the absolute love of our lives, and I wouldn't change it for the world, but I do not want to end up giving money to those awful places ever again. He came to us very sick, and we almost lost him a few times.
Anyway, I have called several newspaper ads, but have had no luck. The people that I have talked to have prices way below $1000, and seem good-hearted, but don't really know a whole lot about the breed, and I don't think I can take the chance. I want an educated breeder who breeds for the betterment of the maltese. I have done a lot of research online, but all the show breeders who have good reputations have their puppies listed for $2500 and up. I guess my question is, is it possible for me to find a healthy, sound, puppy with a good temperament that will be 6lbs or under?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
