:( I had to be honest............they never go for walks. With their long hair and living in Florida, it is way too hot to take them for walks :fainted: :fainted: but we do play fetch a lot in the house........does that count towards exercise????

Yep. I read somewhere that it does ..... as toy breeds do not need the same exercise as their larger cousins.
Scrappy loves our walks and it is good for him and me too. Our lake is just 5 minutes away from our home so it is like our backyard really.

When we brought Jack home in Sept. we took him for 3 walks a day. Each walk was about 15-20 minutes and it really helped settle him down at night. With it being winter now, we try to play that same amount of time each day with his toys and training. We actually talked to the trainer today about Jack getting more aggressive and growling with his favorite toys and she said the dogs get cabin fever just like people do during winter. She said to just take him outside for 5 minutes and let him run around the yard to let some steam off. We did just that today (it was 6 degrees F) in Chicago today, but he had a ball and didn't want to come in. We put his winter coat on and played football (GO BEARS!!).

Though she does enough running around the condo, I walk LB everyday 10 minutes around our complex, just to give her a breath of fresh air.

Well in the summer or spring, we walk them about everyday. But when it is cold, like it is now, we don't walk them at all, it is just way too cold for them and even me. But they do get alot of exercise in the house. They love having little running contests to see who can run the fastest so they do get lots of exercise!!

Kallie is just about once a week now, only because it's always like -25, so it is way way way to cold for her !! So as soon as a warmer day comes along we go for a walk asap !!! Once the spring and summer come we will be walking everyday though !! :) She loves walking, just not when it's so cold !

Winston usually gets about three good 10 minute walks around various nearby blocks. He gets to sniff around the backyard and I run him up and down our driveway to give him a good exercise. We don't have a fenced in yard, so I feel it is my responsibility to see that he gets out and has some good exercise.
I am enjoying the time outside also, but lately it has been soooo ccooolllddd in Mi. that we have had to curtail the walks to brief in's and out's. I am looking forward to spring and summer. Any month now.....
Peace,

We live in the country on a lot of land, so Perri goes outside to run amok every day, unless of course it's raining or extra cold/windy. I'm in NC so it's normally not too bad, I just bundle him up and he's fine. I'm fortunate that he has the space to run around freely, and that he stays close. He also gets more excercise running around like a crazy child than he would walking on a leash. Although he does run around a lot inside, I still feel it's important he gets to go outside too.

WoW I am impressed by how many of us walk our Malts.
Scrappy's daily constitutional is about 10 minutes around the block. Which can take longer if he meets our neighbors the pugs. 2 or 3 times a week he gets a bonus of a trip to the lake. The lake is his sniff and dawdle walk and if it is warm he loves to go in the lake for a dip. This walk takes about 3/4 of an hour to complete.
I love walking Scrappy we have a great time. :smlove2:

I would say once a week for the boys & never for Abbie ;) her ladyship never walks she always gets carried:D
If dogs were allowed into the school grounds then i would walk them daily taking the kids to school!

I would have to say once a week, as my babies get plenty of exercise running around the yard with my three boys. Sammy isn't allowed and can't go on walks because of her Patella's, so maybe when she is all fixed we will start going on more walks.

Cosmo goes for a walk once a week if that...I know thats probably bad but he runs around my house all the time..plus its soo cold here...10-17 degrees in the morning and 20-30 degrees in the evening that I don't want him going out there...but as soon as it gets warm I will take him out more..although he is just like a kid that goes outside to play...when I take him out..as soon as he comes back inside he smells weedy.lol I am like gosh man I just washed you.lol

We live in the country on about 35 acres with 2 ponds and Macy & Jazzy go outside several times a day to potty and run like crazy that is unless it is raining they don't like the rain or really cold then they just go do their business and run back in.
