Hello Fellow Maltese Lovers,
I am very new to this whole community of dogs owners online, but I am so glad I found this website. It is very comforting to know that there is a place I can go and ask questions about raising and loving a maltese.
We purchased Winston, male 6 1/2 months old at the time, just before Christmas from a local pet store. My husband asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I couldn't believe the words that popped out of my mouth...I want a dog. So, we started looking around. I told him the "universe" would show us the dog we were to have.
With no real thought of purchasing a dog that particular day, we took a stroll through the local pet store. I saw this cuddly, white curly haired dog in the cage and just felt pulled to him. I mentioned to my husband that the dog looked a lot like a dog who was at that pet store 5 months earlier, but was way too expensive. My husband recognized that he was the same dog. I was shocked, but very happy to see that the price had come down quite a bit.
We have two daughters, who wanted the dog back in August very badly, so we picked them up from school and surprised them by taking them to the pet store. When they saw the dog, they wanted him very much. The only problem was that he had a "wild" streak in him. He would just start "biting" you and not seem to let up unless you actually picked him up and held him in passive pose. Undaunted, we purchased the dog.
When we got home, I had a chance to look at the paper work and was I blown away by what I saw. Our little dog was born on June 9 and that was my mom's birthday. (She died 4 years ago of a brain tumor) I felt that we were definitely suppose to have that dog.
We have had Winston for almost six weeks now and he is pretty much with the program. We have only had a few accidents. He still seems to get a little "wild", but nothing like in the beginning. He just loves to jump. Sometimes, however, he tries to bite at you...not hard, I guess it's to really get your attention, but when I am cooking dinner, it is very annoying.
Anyway, we are learning and I am sure I will be posting questions for you guys to give me advice. Again, I am so glad I found this special maltese community.:)
Peace,
Winston's mom
