Whenever I comb Alex, her hair comes off on the comb. Does anybody have the same problem with your babies? I thought that malteses do not shed. Someone said that she may be growing out of her puppy coat into her adult coat and that was why she was shedding. Could that be it?

Maltese nor Yorkies shed per say as we know dog shedding. I always have hair in the comb or brush when I do the kids!! They shed in the sense as humans shed hair. They will lose hair like a human but that is not considered shedding. Perhaps that is what you are finding in your comb; normal hair loss experienced by all dogs........so technically not shedding.

Thank you for your information. It makes me feel better that she's not going bald. Her coat is not at full as the some of your babies and I was a little concerned.

Jasper lost a lot of hair when he was getting rid of his puppy coat, he still has some to lose but his adult coat is coming in thicker and better than what he had as a baby. He will still lose some when he is brushed.

All three of mine have different types of coats!! Buffy looks like she has a very think coat next to Kallie and Brandy...........but she has a lovely coat and it is not thin at all, just not as thick as the others but still "plenty" of hair!! I wouldn't worry!

The only time my little's hair comes off the comb is right before he needs to be groomed. It's a Mommy alert saying call the groomer :O)

Alex seems to have fine, fragile hair. Her top knot got so thin that I finally cut it off. I'm afraid to comb her head even after I spray her with conditioner and a detangler. Am I doing something wrong? I try to be really gentle and she doesn't mind being combed on her head but she hates it when I comb her body.
