Ok...since I am a new Maltie mom...I need some advice. What is the "best" brush? Do I need to bathe b/f the bath, or after she is dry?? At what age did you first take your baby in for a "beauty" treatment?? Dixie's hair is growing thick...SUPER fast!! :fainted:

I use the pin brushes without the balls on the tips only because I was told they are better for the hair..........I got several sizes as I have yorkie and a maltese.......but they are a line called PSI made in Germany and they have lasted forever! I couldn't find any brushes in the petshops without the balls on the tips so had to order them off the internet from J & B Wholesale. But there are some brushes that Jadey uses that are excellent as well and I hope she posts for you too. As far as brushing.........ABSOLUTELY brush before you bath and get all the mats out or they will be a lot harder if not impossible to get out. And then bath and brush and blow dry!!!! It's lots of work keeping a nice long coat but oh so beautiful!!!
Also never brush the coat when it is dry.........always wet it with a light spray. I mix some water and some conditoner inbetween baths to wet their hair. Keeps the hair from breaking.

Glad you said that...I brush her dry!:fainted: My Yorkie was not thick...and she was more silky...didn't tangle much. So this hair is TOTALLY new to me. Recommend a good shampoo and conditioner??? I think I have a similar brush you are talking about...the pins. Get the tangles out well.

Hello--
You need to wait until she has had all of her puppy shots and then another two weeks or so to make sure they have taken effect and she has the full benefits of them before her little spa days.
In addition to a quality pin brush like the others mentioned, you need a comb to brush her with first to really get all the way down to the skin to make sure there are no tangles. As far as the shampoo and conditioner, I like CC products, which I see there is some info about on here, and also Isle of Dogs. IOD has a whitening shampoo that I like which isn't drying.

I also brush my Florek dry, with wet hair it's more difficult and hurts a little. However, I put Bio Groom Vita oil (other can be also used but it may *not* contain mink oil) mixed with water and spray on his coat, that makes it easy to brush, as he also has thick hair.

Thanks. Where can I get those styling products. I need a good whitener!

Where do you get that oil. Yeah...she snapped at me when I brushed her wet. So I may have to try this.

Amanda,
Do you mean the Isle of Dogs stuff? It's www.iodogs.com I follow the whitening shampoo with their heavy management conditioner.

I like Hansen's shampoo but am having trouble getting now, so I use Pet Silk. Hansen makes a leave in conditioner remoisturizer that I love.
