My girlfriend called tonight.....her niece is the one who just got her dog back after being lost for a long time. Her father died last month and they are selling the house. She is moving in with her Grandma who lives in a condo and doesn't allow pets. The person who was going to take her dog for 6 months until she got her own place can't do it now. They asked me for some suggestions...and all I could think of was to contact a rescue site and ask for their help. She is willing to pay for all the care of her dog until she can have him back.
Any other suggestions I can give her? She doesn't want to put him back into a shelter or pound...she just found him again and she really needs this connection with something from a time that was happy for her.

What kind of a dog is it again?... and where?

That is a hard one...that poor dog has been through so much and now just finding it way back to her....and she has been through so much and she just found her dog again. Does she have any other friends, neighbors, family that could take the dog. I would think she needs to find a place that will allow her to see it so the both don't lose that bond that they just acquired. Maybe contacting a rescue they can find someone willing to let the dog stay there temporarily with a foster...there are some good people but then there are ones not so good.

Wow, Cheryl, that's a tuff one!!! I don't know of any rescues that will take a dog in temporarily..........they usuallly make you sign over all rights to the dog once they accept a dog.

A private kennel might be willing to work with her on price but a good one would still be expensive and I really don't like to kennel dogs! The one like a doggie daycare, might also work with her on a price for long-term care.

Maybe another family member or friend............I couldn't do it because I would, frankly, just get too attached caring for him that long of a time period.:( :(

The real solution would be for her to find her own place........but again, it is so hard to find rentals that will accept pets. I found that out when we had to rent a place while our home was being built. I finally wound up "begging" a landlord to please let us rent, offering to replace all the carpeting if need be but that I was 100% sure that they wouldn't have to. Of course at the time, we only had one little dog.............I don't think any amount of begging would get me in a rental now!!:lol2::lol2::lol2:

I'm not sure there is a "perfect" solution to this problem. :( :(

This might be risky, but I've seen it done - go on craigslist and ask for a foster parent for x amount of time. Screen the potential fosters BIG time. Come up with a contract saying that they have to give the dog back after the alloted time. Is this dog friendly with other dogs? Maybe someone on YT could foster the pup for a little?

The dog is a collie/pit mix. As gentle as a dog could be. She lives in Aurora, IL.

With the dog having Pit in it...it is going to be hard to find someone to watch it. I had some Pit Bull puppies and it took awhile to find good homes for them and I have one and my ex has 2 of them.
