Hi! I just joined, and I am about to get a maltese puppy from a breeder in NJ named Donna Lally. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about her.
Thanks!

Hi there!!!
I don't know anything about that breeder, sorry.
Does she have a good reputation? How did you find her? How and where does she keep her breeding pair/s? Will she allow you to see where/how she keeps them? Does the pup come with at least a 1-2 year health guarantee?
You can ask for references from other people that have bought from her. Or even ask vets to see if they have heard anything negative about her.
Whoever you get a pup from, be sure to get it to the vet right away to get it checked out for any potential health issues.
Aside from that, congrats on your soon to be new pup!!!! Be sure to post pics when you get him/her, ok? I would love to see what you get. :D
I'm sure others will pipe in here too....

I heard about her from Breeders.net and yes, she has a 1 year warentee, and I can go see the puppies at her house (where they were born and raised. Both parents are there as well). I can't go see them yet because they were only born 9/25 and she wont let anyone in to see them till they're about 6 weeks old. We have connections to another breeder in the area, as well as a woman who used to write all the maltese books and neither of them have heard anything bad about Donna. But they also said that they didn't know anything about her because she doesn't show her dogs.
When i spoke to her, she seemed very nice and that she loves her dogs very much. And the fact that she won't let anyone see the puppies yet seems like a good thing to me, because she is more concerned about their health than getting a quick sale. And of course I will bring the puppy to the vet as soon as I can get an apointment after I bring her home.
I was just curious if anyone had heard anything about her. good or bad.

I found her website.
http://www.geocities.com/lallypups/index.html
There are two things that stand out to me...
* She breeds both maltese and yorkies and mixes them too - reputable breeders typically stick with one breed
* She uses the term "teacup" - there is no such thing as a "teacup" and typically reputable breeders won't use that term. She is also selling them for a higher price which raises a red flag to me.

Hm...When I spoke to her, she said she doesn't believe in "teacups" And I think that page is -really- old. That's not the town she's located in anymore...
And every breeder in this area is charing the same price for maltese pups. 2k-3k dollars. I haven't found one for less. (And we've been looking)

Well, maybe it's just an old site.
The only thing I meant by the price... when a breeder sells a pup for a lot of money, it should be a pup that was bred to standard. If a breeder is selling a "teacup" for a lot of money, usually they are selling just to make money. I mean, a lot of litters accidently get big pups and extra tiny ones, but reputable breeders will sell them for less.

her dog's parents were champions. so I -can- show them if I wanted (But I don't. I don't have the time or the energy, and frankly, i just want a little snuggle buddy >D)
And the site says it's from 2006 So that's nearly 3 years ago!! Also, I've read that even a respectable breeder can breed two breeds. And I've spoken to quite a few that breed Maltese and Yorkies or Maltese and Shi Tsus and stuffs.
I apreciate the advice though! ^_^ <3

Are you replying about LaptopMaltese ?
If you are that is definately NOT correct, she doesn't let her puppies going until they are 12 weeks and its just listed as she is not available.
She goes through quite an extensive process on selling her dogs, and you must agree to a contract.
here is a quote from her Kims site
What is a Responsible Breeder?
A Responsible Breeder is always concerned with the health and well being of the mother and puppies. Puppies' progress should include weigh-ins to ensure that all are gaining evenly; their dam is regularly checked to insure that she is doing well also. Puppies should receive vaccinations based on accepted veterinary schedules.
A Responsible Breeder is not in a hurry to sell the puppies. They will allow puppies to leave for new homes at about 12 weeks of age (but it is typical that many Responsible Breeders take deposits for litters just born or shortly due).
These are the ethics we subscribe to:
Also just below it says 10 weeks but I personally know she wont let them go until 12....FWIW !

I don't believe in mixing breeds on purpose and especially in charging $1,500 for excuse the term a mutt because that is what you will get regardless if they are calling them Morkies.
You can always get your baby shipped to you or pick one up. Here are some breeders that I know have pups.
