So we went back to the vet today because its been 4 weeks and her itching has not gotten any better. Shes had her meds refilled twice and those arnt helping either. Im so sick of her itching it makes me so sad to watch her. I noticed the other day her brother was itching too so that worried me and we took him in as well just to be safe. Well this weekend we found mold in the laundry room (great! another thing to add to my list) so I kinda thought that might be whats triggering them to itch because late nights and early mornings are when their the itchiest (after theyve been inside all night?) They spend most the day outside being dogs lol

Anyways, the vet says he thinks Jake is just warding off fleas, Mitzy too but he thinks Mitzy definatly has an allergy to food/mold/fleas... hmm I wonder why he thinks that? Idk Im just at my wits end trying to figure this out and I feel like when I take her in all he does is reitterate what I told him I think it is.

AND im so sick of fleas. I wish it would just freeze here already so I can have a break from these stupid bugs. I vaccuum EVERDAY just to keep my house free from these things only to have my dogs venture outside and bring them inside again. Its a losing battle. BUT I only find DEAD fleas (like 2 a week) which has to be a good sign.

Well he gave her 2 weeks worth of steroids to take (this was a last straw kinda thing). I worry about the effects it could have on her but if helps us figure out whats wrong and only to be used this one time Im ok with it.

Sorry she is suffering like that. I hate fleas too, but thank goodness Frontline works on my two babies. You would think with the weather cooling off, the fleas would die already!

Poor Mitzy! I am sorry to hear she is not getting better! I hope you can get to the bottom of it! You can send her to my house, it has been pretty cold here, no fleas.

Feel better soon Mitzy! Diddy sends her lots of hugs and kisses!

I hope she gets better real soon. Mine have all been itching lately and I know it has to do the whatever is outside. Missy is allergic to something out there and will each like crazy especially right after the yard is mowed or there has been a storm.

Aww.. poor Mitzy.

Allergies is no fun:(
espcially when you cant find the solution to it yet.
its so annoying and painful to see them itching their skin off.

I hope the vet find the problem fast so she can eat normal treats like the others furkids. :D

Sorry that Mitzy is having issues with allergies. Where was the mold in the laundry room. Do you also think it can be hiding in the walls, etc. Does Mitzy go into that room. Have you ever had Mitzy tested for various allergies? They can do blood tests or patch testing. This way you would know for sure. I know that they should be taken off any meds for at least 10 days before the patch testing. I had our frist Maltese patch tested and mold, sycamore were some of the things. Our street is lined with Sycamore trees. But I was glad to learn that he wasn't allergic to dust :O) Hope Mitzy will start to feel better soon.

The mold is in my laundry room and we have that room blocked off from the animals. But I am worried that its in the air or walls. We are having someone tomorrow to look at it. Right now we are doing an elimination diet, then a trial diet. If that doesn't work we are having her patch tested. I can't get it done without a refferal and my vet won't do it until we do the diets to eliminate food allergies.

Thank you guys for your concern and good wishes.

Poor Mitzy.........poor YOU!! I know you must really be stressing because you can't find the cause of the problem and while you search with trial and error to find the culprit........you have to watch Mizty suffer through it. Let's hope a solution is found very soon. Give Mitzy high paws from the fluffs at my house!!!

Sorry to hear that Mitzy is not improving. Been there, done all that. One of the problems with the steriods is that she will improve while on them...they don't cure the problem, just mask it. I was tired of Paris being on prednisone every time I turned around (and this all before her 1st birthday). I was also told that the derm. vet only went on referrals. I got sick and tired of getting the run around with my then vet and called the derm vet myself. I got an appointment. Fleas are one of the worst things Paris is allergic to. Thankfully, they are not that bad around our house. I think the only thing she wasn't allergic to was mold. I hope you get some better answers soon.

Thank you.. I hope to figure something out soon too. Its weird because she is the worst in the morning when we first wake up. and then during the day and evening she seems perectly normal. Thats why im skeptical about the allergies.. She is on prednisone which worries because of the effects it can have on her little organs but its a one time thing hopefully. And it doesnt even seem to help much honestly. But its only been a few days maybe itll help some later.

We have the flea issue under control. Both are on flea preventatives and I vacuum everyday because of fleas. Thats why im pissed he thinks its fleas. We battled fleas for literally months on end and finally got rid of them. I know when my dogs have fleas. But I should watch what I say cause he may very well be right. Or maybe shes allergic to fleas and the reaction is just now hitting her. I just find it weird that shes only itchy in the morning. And she itches NON stop. Its horrible. I just want to know whats going on with her I have a list of things I think it is and am trying to rule them out one by one lol

since she's only itching in the mornings...what does she sleep on? has it been washed? maybe she's allergic to what she is sleeping on...have you tried giving her something else to sleep on? as you can tell, I'm grasping at straws here...

if you have done your best to rule out food as an allergen then have Mitzy tested for environmental allergies. Its a simple blood test and only cost under $200 atleast it did for me and I know what Lizzie is allergic too GRASS !

She sleeps with me except for weekends when hubbys home. The sheets get washed once a week. But she hasn't always slept with me.. and I wash her blanket in the same detergent. Ill try switching to another brand though. I'm desperatly trying to figure this out too. I've began a journal of when she itches, for how long and where. So maybe that will help the vet figure it out. I've been doing a lot of research too. On YT and other internet groups. Nothing seems to fit though..

Did you get that done at your regular vet?

Yes they drew the blood and sent off the samples to an allergy testing Lab.

it came back as She was allergic to Certain types of grass and dust mites.

You could certainly test for food as well but it would be more money !

Lizzie is on 10 mgs of Atopica right now and it has helped allot

I was thinking the same thing. It could be her bedding or if she sleeps with you your laundry soap/softener. Have you changed the brand and then you noticed the itching?

Also what kind of heating system to you have....wondering if any of the mold from the laundry room could be getting into your heating system.
