I am currently taking Mia to the Banfield Vet inside of PetSmart, but I was REALLY shocked when they gave me the invoice of charges for her visit Frontline flee medication which will last about 3 months (they gave me the box to apply it at home, and there are 3 applications) they applied one there that day...heartworm medication which will last me 1 year (they gave me a year supply of it)...some anti parasite medication, ear cleaner and an exam of her stool sample. Does this price sound about right?

LB's mom told me about Vetco down here in San Diego and she said that they were cheaper in price and were a great vet. How do I make the switch? I have never owned a pet before so I am confused about this!

I didn't see where you posted the price you paid! Switching vets is a breeze. You just call up the vet you want to go to and make an appointment with them. Just be sure to take all the information showing all the shots, meds, etc. that she has been given. I switched vets because they charged me $18 more for the exact same medication as my previous vet. Like finding a doctor for yourself, sometimes it takes trial and error or references from others that have had good experiences. I bought a one year heartgurad plus package for $28.00.......last vet wanted $48 and the vet before $35. I don't use any flea medication so don't know about that.

Hi Krystal-
You didn't list a price in your post, so I don't know if the cost is reasonable or not LOL! I get Perri's Frontline and Heartguard for free from an Aunt who manages a vet clinic in NJ, so I wouldn't know about that anyway. I'm sure others can help you with that. But, I'm glad you're switching from Banfield. I've never been in there, but a chain vet clinic in a Petstore just doesn't seem like a good place to me. Just like I wouldn't use their groomers, I wouldn't use their vet. Anyway, once you find a place you like, all you have to do is get a copy of Mia's records from Banfield, and the new place will put those records in the system. Also, if you or Mia doesn't like one of the vets at the new place, it's okay to try a new vet at the clinic next time. It's very important the vet has a good rapport with the dog. Good luck!

I live in Aussie and our pricing is different, however
3 months supply of frontline $50
Heartworm injection $100 ( I think)
Anti- parasite medication ( wouldn't have a clue)
Ear cleaner $12
Stool sample $40

I would think your prices are High, Sarah you would know the pricing ( even though our states are different)

I want to add $263 US is $338.70 AU WOW that is one high vet bill for a healthy puppy

I never get out of the vet without giving them my arm and leg :fainted: :tongue7:

So I atleast buy my flea meds and anything else I need on ebay or online. You get so much more for your money and since I have 4 dogs, that is important!

Krystal,

Go to www.petservice.com and you will see a list of their current prices and locations. They have a shot clinic you can go to every Saturday and Wednesday from 1:00-4:00. They are just wonderful over there. You will love the staff. It's not too far from La Jolla either. I've taken both Kira and LB there and they know us by name. Good luck. Make sure you check out their website. Just bring copies of her medical records to make sure she doesn't get repeat shots.

**disclaimer**I am not affliated with Petco or Vetco. Just a satisfied and happy customer.:D

Does the vet do shots also or is it only the clinics?

The vet did LB's and Kira's shots during the clinics. I think they feel it's more productive this way, that way the other days can be used for regular visits and surgery days. It's worked very well for us.

I just took Toby to a vet clinic nearby me, PETLUV. I also got both my babies microchipped there for $10 each several months ago. This day I got all of his shots(bordatello, corona, etc), his heart worm test, his 3 year rabies shot and a year supply of heartguard plus for $78.00. And they are super nice there. They just love Toby and Kallie!!! But it is first come first serve. I was five minutes late but she let me sneak in anyway. . . . . Toby was hoping otherwise. :D

I'm actually relocating to San Diego from Orange County, CA and I called Fendi's new vet to ask about the switch, and all they needed was a phone number and vet's name so they can have her records faxed directly from her last vet.
