Now THAT IS Xeriscape. Wow Jane, I can't even imagine having a yard like that. I hope you can change it around some to better suit you.

If you aren't happy with it, does that mean you did not plan it? Who did?
Forgive my ignorence, but do people not have lawns out there? Is it too hot and dry or what?

I think it looks great! What don't you like about it?
Oh how I wish I could move out that way! I'd rather have a cactus garden than a weed garden:lol2::lol2:

I am sure it is just the initial "shock" of going from a real yard to a whole different type of yard. Looks to me like it is fitting for the location. Maybe you will get use to it..........no mowing? Right? That has to be a plus. Of course you can always add a few things to put a personal touch to it.
How does Alex react to the new yard???

That would take a lot of getting used to for me. I'm a country girl and I like my grass too much.... I looooove walking barefoot in the grass.
How does Alex react to the cacti? I would be a little concerned of him getting pricked!

Aren't you concerned about getting bitten or stung or about stepping on something in the grass? I can't make myself go barefoot in the grass anymore. I did when I was younger.;)
I would imagine if Alex gets pricked by the cacti once, he won't go near it again. :)

Oh I watch where I'm walking very closely. I just love the feel of grass between my toes though!
When we lived in OK we couldn't walk a few steps without getting stickers on our feet... still did it anyways!

Wow, I'm sure you'll get used to it but what a change. Does Alex like going on the stones? Jack loves going potty on the stones.

Many people down here have gone into Xeriscape (Zero Scape) due to our water restrictions the past couple of years.
Personally I like seeing green or some color, not just grass though, but a lot more then poor Jane is looking at in her new yard.
Ohh how I miss Kentucky bluegrass and fescue... THAT is barefoot grass for sure.

Thanks everybody. It's not that I don't like the Xeriscape. I don't mind the NO grass. It's just that I feel they did not put enough plants. We bought some more (roses) and they put in the dripping lines, but for the price we paid for the landscaping I feel they could have planted the roses WE bought. Instead we had to plant them ourself. They did not plant anything in the courtyard because I said I wanted roses there. If I had said nothing, they would have had to plant SOMETHING !! And they could have bought the darn roses themself instead of me going to Lowe's and Home Depot. I asked for a evergreen wisteria for the treillis next to the patio. But they said they cannot find one this time of year so they only put the dripping line. Guess what. I found my wisteria online and will get it next week. But again, we will have to plant it ourself. We have never done this before. It's the first time we used a landscaping company. Normally I am easy to deal with and accomodating. But now since I am mad I am getting picky. We are going to add pavers in the courtyard and under the pergola, but believe me, we are going with some one else.

That is very frustrating to spend money for someone to do a job and not get what you want. If you're paying someone... you have the right to be picky and get what you want.
How many rose plants are you planting? Do you not like planting things yourself?

It looks like it is a lot of young plants. I bet you will be happier with it once they start maturing and get fuller. It would be a shock for me too, though, we have centipede sod so thick...it is like carpet.

Lol, if we would be 10 years younger we would not mind. And planting here in that soil is not a piece of cake. That soil is almost like concrete. It's a miracle that anything grows in those conditions.
