Hi everyone,

I am glad to be here. I own a 14 month old male Yorkie (Kiki) and just put a deposit on an 8 week old male Maltese. I am very excited about picking him up and I'm sure I will have a bunch of questions. I am also a member of Yorkietalk and it seems there are a lot of Yorkie and Maltese owners there.

I haven't decided on a name yet, but I will keep you all posted.

Tammy.

Thank you Morkie4,

I am picking him up next weekend. I don't have a name yet. My son suggested Sonic or JB. I am getting a male maltese. What do you think about 2 males together in the same home? I've heard different opinions.

I don't see a problem with it at all..... most likey the Yorkie will have a bigger problem accepting a new baby into the house but because he is a baby, I am sure the acceptance will be eaiser. Of course we had Kallie before Toby and he was only six months when we got him. Well he was fine with Kallie but he literally HATES other dogs and is very aggressive towards any other dog. But he and Kallie are best buds! I am certain you will not have any problems...........what kind of personality does your yorkie have??? Other than the aggression, Toby is the sweetest little guy you could ever want. Hey, post a pic for us. Here is one of Toby.

Kiki loves other dogs. When he sees one, it does not matter how small or big they are he wants to go up to them and play. He never growls or barks at them, unless they bark first. I think he will get along just fine with my new baby. It's just him getting used to him. Kiki is 15 months old now. Here is a picture of him.

Oh, he is beautiful..........too beautiful to be a boy!! :lol2:

If he is friendly with other dogs, I am sure this new little maltese you are getting will fit in with no problems at all. He is so little too. How much does he weigh??? He's really adorable! Toby is six pounds, Kallie is my big girl at 10 pounds. But they get along great and never hurt each other when they play as she is just a gentle giant!! He is a little barbarian at times with her but she puts him in his place with this special growl she expresses and he backs off! :D He's a smart one! LOL

Thank you, He looks smaller in that picture, but he weighs about 7 pounds. Here is another picture of him, so you can see how big he really is. How do you keep Kallie clean? That is another reason I was a little hesitant about getting a Maltese. I was concerned about keeping him clean.

The last picture of Kiki.........he looks like he is contemplating how to ask you to get him a playmate?:D :D A really cute shot!

Keeping a maltese white........well, there are a lot of products out there especially designed to whiten their coats but they do tend to dry their hair if used too often. Actually it really isn't hard at all. Are you going to have your maltese in a full coat or a puppy cut as he grows older? I have not cut Kallie's hair since we got her except for around the feet. She was two and a half when we got her and she is not 4 1/2 yrs old. But the previous owner used the "whitening shampoo" on her every week and so her hair was pretty damaged. So it has taken a while for her hair to recover. But I have used Petsilk (which I really like) and have used biogroom products and well, I have used several products. Next time I need more products, I may try the CC products everyone raves about! But I've got so much right now, looks like summer before I will be buying anything new. I use all the same products I use on Kallie for Toby with the exception of the "whitening shampoo." I find that I need to bath Toby once a week but Kallie I can sneak by and do every two weeks. But BRUSHING is a must with the either breed to keep a long coat! And doing it DAILY!!!

Morkie4,

Both of your babies are so beautiful. Kallies coat is gorgeous, but I must admit. I am nervous about letting my new babies coat get that long. I am hoping Kiki's coat grow out longer though. It seems to be growing very slowly. (my ideal yorkie coat is like villlette's yorkies on YT) they have beautiful coats. Currently I do use CC products on Kiki and I love them.

I brush Kiki every other day. I could really get away with brushing him once a week because I never have a problem with mats or tangels. I think I am going to keep a puppy cut on my new baby. I use a harness for Kiki and will be doing the same for my new baby, so I think it will best to keep him in a puppy cut.

Thank you for all of your suggestions!

Well, for sure I am going to try the CC products!!!! Toby's hair is almost down to the ground now. And yes, Villette's yorkies are beautiful!!! But I could never get by with a week and not brush either of mine or they would be so matted!!! I am going to be ordering some of those silk harnesses from chattiesmom and see if they will not mat the hair on Kallie. Every harness so far has matted the hair under her arms and around her shoulders. I hope they are as good as everyone claims. I'm ordering for Toby as well, of course!

Thank you so much! Two days left! I am going tomorrow to pick up some items. I asked this in another thread, but have not gotten a response yet. Any suggestions on harnesses?

Thanks!

I only use a vest type harness on Macy & Jazzy I make them myself and it is fun b/c they have all kinds. I have never used a collar with a leash attached due to their fragile larynx.

We only use a harness on Jack. A collar can cause a throat problem. The harness is great with training.

Welcome to MT!!!
I am also a member at YT and I have 3 maltese and 2 yorkies.
Congrats on getting the new puppy, you must be so excited to be picking him up very soon!!
As for the harness, I suggest you go with a silk harness from Chattiesmom or there is one other person that makes harnesses, they are not silk but they won't matt or break the hair. And she has alot of fabric to choose from. The site is Didi's Creations, I will have to look up the link if you want it.
But do not buy a regular harness that you get at the pet store, unless you go with the lil pals harnesses. I did that with Poptart and I really regret it. It broke his hair so bad and the color from the harness even came off and stained his hair black.
Good luck with your new baby, I can't wait to see pictures of the little cutie!!

I was just about to order a harness for each of my kids. Soooooooo, which do you find is better for the hair the ones Chattiesmom makes of silk or the one on Didi's Creations site????? Please I must know, I want a product that is going to keep my kids LONG hair in great shape! I'm on YT too!!!
