Zoe was 4 months and absolutely had to go she was matted to the skin on her legs (we were on vacation for 2 weeks).
I had an appointment for Abbie on Saturday and I cancelled it and asked if I could just bring her in for her nails and get the hair between her paw pads trimmed. In all honesty, I have trimmed her nails before, but I thought this may be a good way for her to get used to the place and the groomer. Zoe is going for the whole thing though. (They have to get pretty for Santa.)
How old were your fluffs when they got their first pro grooming?
And for those of you that groom yourself (you know, you groom your own dog...I know you all "groom" yourself), how did you learn?

Ummmmm, yes I do groom "myself." AND I groom my dogs myself!!!
Trial and error for me.........and I am very S L O W .......less chance of mistakes. But they are very patient with me too. But I will say that I spent a lot of time "trimming bushes, hedges, etc" which helps with a "good eye" for straight cutting. But I also cut my hair, my mom's, my hubby's, my two sons, my daughter and a few other people that was willing. I also helped keep my mom's mixed dog groomed and that taught me a lot. So what I learned from cutting all that hair helped me when I had to groom the dogs. My first dog was a poodle and I did all her grooming as well............now that took some time to cut her into a show cut but again, well worth it and taught me a lot! I've never used clippers, always used scissors.......I am sooooo thankful for patient dogs that love to be groomed.:p:p

Louie is about the same age as Abbie and he went to a groomer last week. The lady he went to used to show dogs and just does the grooming at her house. He seemed to do just fine and he was left there on his own with her for about an hour. So Abbie should be fine :)

Emme is 5 months now and she is going in for her first official groom on Thursday. Jasper was about the same age when I took him in also. He did great after he got the hang of it and now he will sit and let me brush him. Emme loves to be brushed so I don't think she will have any problems.
If the groomer is good with them they will catch on fast I think.

I honestly do a lot of chop jobs on Mitzy lol But she's in a short cut so it doesn't really look bad. I take her to the groomers every 4 months or so though.. she was 5 months for her first "pro" cut

I have been doing all the grooming myself, except for nails! The vet does all my dogs as well as my cats!
D'Cotton is very easy to take care of: 45 minutes and he is washed, dried, brushed, ears cleaned and I trim their pads as well as the feet because of the snow!
D'Jollee's takes at least 2 hours, just because her hair is so thick and tends to mat easily.
As well, I usually brush them both in the evening as I watch TV.
And I do try to wash their faces every day! But I am :o not as good to do it as I should!!
